Hello everyone,
Tulane, ranked 43, seems nice. But a lot of people tell me its overrated. Is this true? Plus, I’ve also heard that there’s no diversity whatsoever, Asian-wise. It’s like 2% or something. what do yah think??
thanks
Hello everyone,

I imagine that there's not a lot of diversity when it comes to Asians because there aren't those many Asians who live in that part of the South or who have a desire to move to New Orleans. I have heard that Tulane is very interested in attracting a diverse group of students, so I imagine that being Asian would help one be accepted there.

I think that it has a deserved reputation. I visited, and even though I decided it wasn't for me, I think that it is a very good school. It's pretty difficult to get into. You will find, like most elite southern schools, that most people there aren't even from the south. People in GA hardly ever consider Emory, and likewise for Tulane.

Probably a bit UNDERrated, since so many people only think of it as a party school. It's got an excellent academic reputation, and they're quite generous with merit aid. It was my son's first choice for a time last Spring, but he ended up elsewhere.

I'm from Louisiana, and Tulane will be the only in-state school to which I apply. It is a wonderful school with an underrated reputation. New Orleans is a great place to party, but Tulane students are serious about schoolwork, too. If you like it, apply there.

i also live in la, and i refused to apply anywhere else in la, i think its a very good school, but also not my first choice

I think it's good since they sent me a "personalized application" where they waived my application fee and essay... although I'm writing an essay anyways. BTW does anyone want to read my essay and comment on it please? I'll sent it via email if anyone does. THX

oh and btw HOO_29 What was your essay on for Wisconsin madison? Did you take any SATIIs? I know its late but congratulations on getting accepted into a really good school! oh and did you apply online or through paper application and if through online, did you send any recommendations? (because the on-line version doesn't have any form for recommendation) thanks

i agree...tulane is not my first choice (safety actually b/c la residents w/certain criteria are guaranteed admission), but i think i'd be just as happy there as i woudl at my reach school...it's a very good school...jordanfan55555 and beramod...what part of la do you guys live in? i'm in the very center

huh? I live in Central, South Carolina. (Central is the city name. It's REALLY small)

sorry...i thought you lived in la b/c of the personalized app...

Do i get a better chance of acceptance because i got the personalized app?

I'm not sure, actually. I would think so, though. It makes sense for the school to send personalized apps to only those who show a keen interest, which means they expect that you will most likely apply. I think you would definitely have a better chance of acceptance if you applied by Nov. 1, though.

or maybe they're just trying to reject more ppl? (the app is free!)

oh and btw if i'm just applying for financial aid and not the presidential scholarship, should i write the essay or no?

Ques.: Over-rated?

Ques.: Under-rated?

Fact: You people are truly nuts! (and very funny)
