D rejected from Freeman School of Business after being deferred EA. She’s truly disappointed but I guess she really didn’t demonstrate interest aside from sending LOCI after deferral. All of the virtual events just became overwhelming for her at this point in the game.
4.1W, 3.6UW (all honors, AP, dual credit)
No SAT scores due to cancellations
No hooks
Admitted: NYU, Northeastern, Clemson, Virginia Tech, GWU, UMass, JMU, College of Charleston, DePaul
Rejected: UNC (OOS), Cornell ED and BU (but guaranteed transfer)
Daughter waitlisted, as expected. She was deferred EA. Could not visit due to Covid, but interviewed last summer and did multiple virtual events, including after deferral. She also applied for Paul Tulane, so she put in a lot of effort with this school to show her interest. It would have been a contender.
First, it’’s a must to Apply ED or EA. If it doesn’t go your way, sign up immediately for ED2. Then your chances look pretty good! If you don’t want ED2, forget it. Your chances are about zero. That’s the formula.
hey guys- please don’t clog this thread with information about other schools. this thread is more useful to students when the information remains on topic.
Fantastic choices and much better schools than Tulane anyway! Congratulations! Tulane doesn’t care too much who they admit, as long as they enroll. That’s the only game they play. So your twins were obviously going to take another offer at a better school. Too bad Tulane didn’t just reject them initially after seeing how wonderful they were. Oh right - they wanted to send that ED2 email out first. Lol.
I read some of these messages as bitter and uninformed. Tulane is very transparent about their application process. I am an alumnae and had a phenomenal and life changing experience and am still very close with my college network.
My daughter applied EA (not ED) and is a high achieving student with outstanding ECs including 6 years doing university level research. She got in with a generous merit package.
I know many kids who currently attend and absolutely love their experience academically and socially. NOLA is unlike any other place.
If you didn’t get in or got in and choose not to attend that is your journey but trashing the school is not a good look for you. Best of luck with your other choices!
I agree with you and my son was rejected. I thought that the AO was very clear and I appreciated it at how demonstrated interest really plays a big part. My son didn’t continue interest after being deferred to RA, so not surprised that the letter was a no today given he knew they were right about him not having it as his first choice. But accepting literally almost nobody RA is also a bit extreme. Just looking at the poll, why even have RA? But good on Tulane. They get a higher number of applicants, up their selectivity, accept pretty much only from the ED1, 2 and EA and then boast an incredible yield. It’s their game and their ball. They can play it as they will, but they also may lose out on some top students. But again, their game, their rules. Wishing all who attend Tulane great success and happiness.
Posting for future classes. Tulane just plays games. Daughter is high stats. Tulane had her do zoom “fly in” where we invested countless hours to show interest. They emailed me (parent) and daughter nearly daily. I had to unsubscribe!
She applied EA. Was deferred. Got waitlisted today. She opted OUT!
She has been admitted to Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, USC, Northeastern, and many other highly rated schools. She was offered full tuition scholarships at Wisconsin and Fordham and Chancellors at a few UCs.
Tulane plays games. My daughter was actually interested for some time. She invested her time into multiple scholarship essays. I invested my time on many zoom sessions.
I would not recommend applying unless you read about how they operate and you are willing to play their silly games.
