Tulane top scholars vs honors program

Is there a difference between the honors program and the scholars program?

Well, there are some changes in branding going on, I think. What used to be called Honors Weekend is now Top Scholars Weekend, for example. This reflects some changes to the Honors Program, and that may still be in process.

But I think what you are asking is if there is a difference between the Honors Program and Tulane Scholars. Yes. The Honors Program is more general, essentially giving those that belong a few privileges, such as earlier registration and priority for honors sections and the honors dorm, although the last two are rarely an issue even for those not in the Honors Program. Tulane Scholars, on the other hand, is currently about 75 students that have demonstrated both interest in a more purely academic experience, for lack of a better phrase, and the academic talent to succeed at the highest levels. So these students are looking for the highest quality research experiences, advising towards scholarships such as the Rhodes and Fulbrights and the like, priority for and access to special summer programs, etc. Tulane Scholars requires an application after arriving on campus in the fall, while the Honors Program is by invitation, at least starting out in freshman year.

I hope that sheds some light on the question.

Thank you!
