Tulane University

Hello!

I have a few questions about Tulane University for anyone able to answer or speculate. What is the culture of the school like? Is the political science program good? What does it take to get significant merit scholarship money to Tulane? Are there many religious organizations on Campus/are they strong?

I’m a junior in high school and I currently have around a 4.3 weighted GPA and 1490 SAT/33 ACT (although I expect scores to come up by the time I’m applying).

Thank you!

With those scores you can automatically get good merit aid if admitted. Research the Paul Tulane and Dean’s Honors Scholarships, those give full tuition and fees. My daughter hasn’t accepted her offer yet, but it is a top contender. From our research, it seems like all kinds of kids fit in there. We know “party” kids and “non-party” kids–and they all seem happy. Our neighbor’s son is a junior and we had lunch with them Christmas day – I was super impressed by how poised and articulate he is. Actually, I think he is a poly sci major, and he is in James Carville’s class. We live in Louisiana, so we know lots of people there.

Thank you! Yes, I’ve looked into the Paul Tulane and Dean’s Honors Scholarships. I couldn’t find more information on the specifics of each of them, like, for example, what is the “creative project” that you submit for the Dean’s? Do you know? Also - I wasn’t aware James Carville taught at Tulane! That’s super cool!

The DHS project can be anything- if you google Tulane DHS you can get an idea of some former projects. My son is graduating from Tulane this year, he is a poli Sci/Philosophy major and he LOVES it. He has had so many interesting classes and some amazing professors. He is currently in Carvilles class and it’s quite a unique experience. It’s very competitive and you have to apply to take the class. Lots of opportunities for internships and public service experiences.

If you search “Dean’s Honor Scholarship” on the Tulane board, you can read all about the box project. Also, the dean of admissions might have a blog post about it. If you look through this board, you’ll see posts by FallenChemist–he was a parent, expert, and huge Tulane fan. He died last year, but just about a month before he died, I PM’d him my daughter’s idea for her box. He highly encouraged it, and she got the DHS! A boy at her school has gotten the Paul Tulane (you write an essay). So, there are good opportunities. Good luck!
