Tulane vs. Alabama vs. UofSC

@animallover345 Makes perfect sense! For my son, his education and giving back are equally important which is why he loves UFE and Tulane. He also really liked UofSC, but it is more expensive for him than Tulane and UA. You will definitely do great things - best of luck to you!!

@TwoFabKids Which school did you son select? And pros/cons after his selection?
I’m in the same boat.

Hi:). He chose the University of Alabama and has no regrets. He eliminated UofSC bc it was more expensive than the other two for him. He had full tuition scholarships at Tulane and UA so cost was about the same. He really struggled to decide, but ultimately chose UA bc he was admitted to 2 specialized programs so he felt like he’d get the best of both worlds (small environment in his programs but benefits of a large school, football, school spirit, etc.). If you have any specific questions, I’m happy to try and answer them.

Is he UFE and McCollough? Is he able to do both?
Thoughts on both programs? Particularly time with pre-med.

Oh, you are really in the same boat?! lol. Yes, he is in both UFE and McCollough and pre-med. He really likes both UFE and McCollough, BUT, he was a public health major and ended up changing his major, b/c there was no way to finish the public health requirements, pre-med pre-reqs, and the classes required for UFE and McCollough. So, he applied to New College and is now creating his own major in science, health, and social change, so he can combine the pre-med pre-reqs, public health, and social change classes that he is interested in. There are moments that I (as his mother) wonder if it is too much for him with both programs and pre-med, but he seems to be managing fine. I am sure he would be willing to talk to you if you’d like to speak with him.

What is your major? If you are a bio or chem major, it will be easier to juggle it all. It also depends on how many credits you are coming in with - he had 41 credits from DE, Clep, and AP, and still would not have been able to complete his public health major, pre-med pre-reqs, and both minors in 4 years (he also has another 1 or 2 gen ed classes left). Keep in mind, that UA only permits 16 credits per semester - after that, out of state students have to pay $1330 PER CREDIT for each credit over 16. He took 18 credits 1st semester and is taking 17 credits this semester. We were blindsided by this policy b/c we didn’t do enough research regarding credit limits and overages. Tulane allows 18+ credits each semester, but we learned this after he was already enrolled in 18 credits at UA. That being said, he really LOVES UA and his experience thus far.
