I love all three schools. Tulane gave me 22k per year, Drexel gave me 23k per year and possibly a music scholarship, and I haven't heard about money from Delaware yet (but UDel is much less expensive to begin with). At Drexel I'd be majoring in music industry, which neither of the other two schools have. Is there any way I could design my own major at Tulane? I'm just curious about pros and cons to each school.

I'm from New York, but I don't care how close or far I am from home. I play the Saxophone, I love marching band, and I'm really interested in music. I'm also an athlete. I'm not competing in college, but I plan to stay active.

Interesting choices. I am fairly familiar with UDel, not as much with Drexel. Obviously the music scene in New Orleans is quite good, so that might be interesting for you. Both Tulane and UDel have marching bands and pep bands for the smaller events (Tulane’s band also gets to march in one or more Mardi Gras parades every year), again I don’t know about Drexel in this regard.

Tulane’s music program is apparently undergoing some changes, so what I would recommend is that you talk to the admissions person responsible for this area. His name is Andrew Farrier (afarrier@tulane.edu) and he can get very specific with you, as well as put you in touch with the faculty at Tulane that can provide answers. In general Tulane is pretty good about flexibility in your study options, so although they won’t “invent” majors for you, they will allow you to coordinate your area of interest with an existing major in order to meet your needs. So for example, you could possibly double major in business and some music related area, or just in business but with a coordinate minor really focused in on the music industry.

Oh, also Loyola University is literally next door, and they have a strong music program. Tulane students can take classes at Loyola that are not offered by Tulane, so that might help your options also. I haven’t looked at the offerings in this area that Loyola has these days, but I am sure you can find them on their web site.

These steps should represent a good way for you to weigh Tulane’s potential, anyway.

Thank you so much!
