I am looking to get into IB after I graduate (I love Finance)
I am in first year and was turned down for many internships with IBs for this Summer.
Other than a good academic record (on track for a 2.1/1st depending on Summer exams) I have very little to put on my CV, hence the internship applications.

I graduate in 2014, and I want to bulk up my CV by then.

What sort of alternative experience could I do this Summer that IBs would definitely appreciate? (and hopefully let me in next Summer?)

I have been offered a job to 'contribute' without pay to a spread betting website, it isnt very well known, however. Would this look good?

Anything is better than nothing. Don’t be discouraged if you didn’t land an IB internship freshmen year; from what I’ve read it’s pretty uncommon. Your best bet is to get something finance-related (PWM?). If not that, I’d go ahead with your job offer.

PM me - I can definitely help point you in the right direction in terms of alternative internship paths that look good to IB.

In short, IB as a freshman, even if boutique shops is very rare. Essentially, brand name PWM or boutique consulting, corp dev, IB, PE, etc is far more realistic. The most important thing is to land something where you can gain some analytical experience to boost your resume.

Regarding your currently role - I would stick until something better comes along, but don’t just wait for IB.
