Turning 21 in Oct, what to do?

I about to go into my junior year at U of I and in a few months I will be turning 21 :P Im currently trying to decide what exactly to do to celebrate with my friends. I have two choices:

A. Have a fairly big apt party, I have a 1000 sq ft apt for just my one roommate and I, plenty of room. I imagine the number of people who would be in the apt at once could easily reach 30 or more. I have a good friend who DJs for a popular bar on campus and a few other friends who know how to bar tend. So I know that it would be a great party, especially from the other events we have thrown in the past.

The only problem... I would be the one supplying everything for the party, and the drink tab could easily pass 200 dollars with the list my bar tending friends need to make certain drinks. Not to mention Im also worried about the party being busted, my friend who DJs makes no concessions about playing his mixing loudly. Fines are heavy on campus and I dont feel like taking the risk... esp if it gets out of hand with the music and shenanigans.

B. Have a small pregame party (pong and small shots) with my closest friends, then head out to the bars all night starting at 11 and staying out until 230. It will be cheaper and I wont have to deal with cleaning up the morning after.

The problem.... I have two main groups of very close friends, one group that loves going to the bars to dance and meet girls and another group that prefers to stay in at apt parties and have a relaxing night. I dont want to alienate anyone, but I know if that one group goes to the bars, they wont have a good time and it might bring everyone else down...

Anyone have any suggestions about what to do?

Your 1000sq apartment will not fit 30 people. I have a 1500sq house and it’s crowded with just ten people. It’s workable if you have a yard but since you’re in an apartment, I’d not recommend it. Not only that but parties are expensive. I host small parties at my house and the alcohol bill is easily $200 or just a mere ten people. The after party clean up is horrible even after five people. I couldn’t imagine 30 people. Plus the more people in a building, the more likely there is to be messes (someone spilling on the rug) and things being broken. I’ve had people spill beer on my floor and get dirt on my white couch. It sucks.

Having some of your close friend over is totally do-able. It’s cheaper and you can control the situation a lot better. There is also less chance of having the cops called.

If you have two separate groups of friends, why don’t you have two parties? One for the ones that like bars/girls and one that likes apartment parties? Going out to bars/clubs wouldn’t be expensive because it’s tradition for friends to pay for their birthday friend’s drinks.

go out, for sure

tie yourself to a chair and tell people to pour a keg of alcohol to your mouth by force

Vehicle- You would be surprised how many people we can fit in there, although it is generally very crowded. Yeah I guess, Ill have the little pregame party for everyone beforehand and then go out to the bars after til the end of the night.

System- Not really sure about your suggestion, but I guess Ill give it some thought…

Didn’t clybourne’s just re-open?

Seems to me that’d be the place.

Yeah, well that is actually the bar that my friend DJs at Fri nights, seeing as we will get in w/o cover we’re def stopping by there at some point that night. The only prob i can see with cly’s is that in the summer so far, its been packed on the thur-sat nights, I cant even imagine what it will be like when school starts…

Don’t waste your money unless you’re loaded lawl

Vegas. 10char

I say find a feild and have a giant bonfire party there.

OR you can have a giant party at your place and ask for 5 dollars or for people to supply the drinks or food (if they cant get ahold of any drinks).

Good luck!
