Back in high school, and maybe your first year or two at college, the only way you were really able to drink was at house parties. But once you turn 21, are house parties still common? Or do you go to the bars?
And for people that are underage drinkers, is turning 21 still a really big deal to the point were you get all crazy? Or is it more calm since you've drank before and were an underage drinker? (As opposed to not drinking a lot, or only drinking occasionally in high school and before you turn 21).

From what I have observed of my friends, turning 21 when you’ve already been drinking for several years calls for having a giant drunken birthday party and then returning to more normal moderate drinking afterward. My friends all got the binging thing out of their system in high school/VERY early college. They still seem to prefer house parties over going to the bar.

You def still go to house parties after you turn 21. Most college kids can’t afford to go to the bars 3-5 times a week. It also depends if there is transportation to and from bars. And whether bars have good drink specials. I’d say we go to bars about 2 times a week- usually Wed and Thur. Maybe 3 times. But house parties are still nice- free beer, mingle with everyone, play some games etc;. So yes, you still go to house parties after you turn 21- you can mingle with more people, and it’s cheap. And yes, for most people turning 21 is a “big deal” even when they drank since hs or college. It’s nice being able to drink wherever you want.

The social scene revolves around the bars for those who are overage or hav good fakes. Greek life has a strangle hold over my school so unfortunately a good house party where you can mingle and meet people comes along once/month or less.

The best part about being 21 though is being able buy drinks on more casual occasions. When it gets warm out, a lot of upperclassmen have sangria out on the porch of this restaurant. A friend and I also have this tradition of getting drinks at this more expensive bar every tuesday evening for happy hour after class (think Mad Men style).

I’m not quite 21 yet (4 months!!!), but my few friends that are 21 definitely still go to house parties. In fact, they rarely go to the bars except on special occasions/holidays (because most of their friends are under 21).

As an underage beverage partaker, turning 21 is definitely still a big deal! Traditionally this is the night people don’t remember (amongst my friends at least). For me, I’m most excited about being able to browse liquor stores for hours on end looking at all the awesome flavors, happy hour and being able to get a casual drink with my meal, and being able to go to sports bars to watch the big game!

I think the drinking scene definitely depends on your school though.

There’s a lot of bars off campus at school where a lot of the upperclassmen like to hang out. I turn 21 in 6 months so I can’t wait.

At my school there are almost no house parties since almost everyone lives on campus but there are many many many fraternity parties
