Like the topic says I won't turn 18 until December. Basically that means sitting out a few months of partying etc. So during these three months most everyone else will be out and will already have created a social network. By the time I'm 18 it seems to me that I will be out of the loop and will have a hard time settling in. Same thing when everyone starts turning 21 and I'll have to wait.

Is there anything I can do to remedy this short of a fake ID?

What? Since when does being 17 mean you can't party? You can still party. The only thing you probably can't do is get into clubs/buy porn/cigs. I think you can survive three months without clubbing.

I agree with Stain.
Do what you can and have fun. Be adaptable and you'll find college is fun with or without partying--and not being 18 certainly won't bar you from parties--for one thing, most parties are in people's dorms/appartments anyway!

I would say that a good percentage - maybe 25% or more - of freshman are 17 when they enter college. And I know a few that are 16! It never hurt them socially.

i wasnt 18 till the middle of my second semester at college, and it never was a problem for me. i just couldn't go to the clubs, any my friends only went there once or twice. no one cares if your 18 or not in college, i didn't even get carded at the hookah bar.

at first i thought being young would be a problem though. my first night in college i went to this nice frat party, but some guy stopped me before i got in and asked to see my ID. he meant college ID though, he thought i was still in high school and wanted to make sure i was really in college. kind of ****ed me off but its a funny story

You aren't going to be the only 17 year old there. My roomate didn't have her 18th bday till March. There are plenty of things you can do with friends like movies, coffee, dinner, lunch, bowling/sports. It won't really matter much. Most people won't even realize you're a minor.

One of my friends doesn't turn 18 until August before his soph year. He hasn't had any problems with it - well, except us making fun of him for it.

i turn 18 a month after my freshman year ends. i don't really have any problems apart from when my friends make fun of me for being the baby. i still go clubbing and party, and the most hassle i deal with is having to borrow a friend's id when i go to an 18+ club, which i don't do too much anyways. i survive, and actually party alot, so being young won't affect things for you too much.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you are, except that I won't be 18 until September of my sophomore year in college. I don't think it will be a huge deal, esp. because the drinking age is 21. If we don't make a big deal of it, neither will they. Good luck to you though!

I don't really have any advice. Just wanted to say that dude....I so feel you.

I have a late January birthday. I literally turn 21 5 months before I graduate. 18 isn't really a big deal because most likely you'll just be partying on campus or in apartments. 21 is the kicker. I'm making arrangements for an ID because I just can't justify sitting at home for 10 more months while all of my friends go out. Sigh.

But at least you'll be really young when you graduate! Or something.

I turned in 18 in December. It really didn't mean I had to sit out on any partying at all. Occasionally school dances would say 18+ (no idea why), but they never really checked because you just show your student ID, not your driver's license, and that doesn't say age. If you want to club, then you would need a fake ID. I assure you, your age will not cause you to miss out on anything

I won't be 18 till November this year, which will be in the first semester of my freshman year. I'm going to get carded forever though...I get mistaken for being 13 or so now...heh.

im 17 now and the difference between me shaven and unshaven is like 10 years. i look literally look 13 just shaven and 23 unshaven (a couple days growth is all i do).

I'll be 18 in february of freshman year, but i look like im in my early 20's, maybe 21. if i looked older, would i still need a fake id. do they card everyone, no questions asked?
