I have not made any decisions yet as I have only visited ucla/ucsb so far in the UC system-howeverrr, it occurred to me that I am very keen of santa cruz on paper, but I have to go see what it looks like first.

First, my situation: Definitely not going to grad school (unless I will need it later in life?!) majoring in latin american studies.

So, what do you think? I mean, I am definitely thrilled beyond belief that I got into these schools!, but I've heard I might fit in at santa cruz better-Once I visit in a week or so, I'll know-just some food for thought

But would that be dumb to turn down those schools?

I wouldn’t say dumb,it’ s personal choice. I know plenty of people at D, SB and even State schools that turned down Cal and LA and they are very happy with their decisions. You should go where you think you will get the most out of your college experience!

nah i dont think it would be dumb, i mean i LOVE Cal, but if u love SC, go for it!!!

go with where u fit, where ur most comfortable being, and where the surroundings make you happy…if ur not comfortable or happy u probably wont do well, and whats the point of going to UCB/UCLA if thats gonna happen? ppl tend to crash when they arent happy, trust me on that.

UCSC is a really awesome place. If that’s really where you want to go then you shouldn’t feel bad about turning down another. school that other people tell you is better. I’ve been to the campus a couple times, and I would say it’s easily the most beautiful campus I’ve ever seen, and Santa Cruz is a really cool place. You should definitely give it a visit before you make a decision though.

I agree with what the posters before me have said. Follow your heart and listen to your authentic self; don’t get caught up in what other people or what rankings say is best, or fall into the prestige factor ego trap. You will be the most successful and happy if you are in an environment where you can thrive. I just sent in my SIR to UCSC, instead of LA, SD, SB, and Davis. Do what is best for you.

AH! I’m just gonna throw away the rankings, pretend they don’t exist-swipe away the names-start off w/a blank slate, and see which school has the best programs for my major :P-Thanks!! I feel better already

I picked UCSC over all the others (Cal rejected me, but I would’ve gone there otherwise). I’m really glad that I’m not alone in that decision; otherwise I might feel a bit crazy. ;)

I’m from Santa Cruz county so I know that it’s a good school in a beautiful area. I got into higher ranked schools also but I might go there as well, although I kind of want to experience a new city. Don’t feel bad about your decision at all! :)

Hey! I’m actually doing the same thing! I got into both UCLA and CAL but at the end of the day I really want to go where I feel best and I think thats in Santa Cruz. See you around next Fall! :]

for those who studying economics… u know the opportunity cost of going to SC instead of LA/Berkeley is really really high… u need to take a serious consideration before making ur choice
