I'm sure I'll regret this decision one day, but I rejected Berkeley's invitation for UCSB. UCSB is much closer to my current location and doesn't seem to be so serious about everything like Cal. I grew up in the Bay Area so my family is probably going to take this decision
Personally. What would y'all have done?

don’t drop that dun dun dun!

Oh my…

UCSB?..

Go where is most comfortable for you to get the best grades. Gpa > school prestige.

Turning down Cal and UCLA for UCSD here. Maybe.

Depends on what UCSD says about my non-articulated physics series (the same series from our sister school IS articulated, so I am hoping it’s just some glitch).

If they want me to retake it, I’ll withdraw my SIR and go to Cal or LA.

I figured there would be a mix of people making me feel good about the decision and making me feel bad.

@bear not sure what side you’re on with that jibberish, but I appreciate the feedback either way.

UCSB is a choice that I know can’t be wrong for me. I currently live near the campus and know that it’s awesome. I’ve never been to Cal. I hear that it’s awesome but I’ve never experienced it first hand. Its very possible that it wouldn’t be the right fit for me.

Don’t be stupid, go to Cal.

@stephen

Hey, knock it off. It’s the OP’s choice to turn down UCB for UCSB and that’s perfectly fine. School name isn’t everything.

Why don’t you visit to find out for sure?

UCSB? I go to UCSB currently. Enjoy your lifelong regret!

Don’t dropt hat dun dun dun dun

dun dun dun

dun dun dun
dun

This is for bearterritory

Wow. Have fun at UCSB.

I commend you for doing what you think is best for yourself. Who knows, maybe you’ll benefit from this decision in the long run. Theres the possibility that you’d be able to stand out more at UCSB since the environment overall isnt as competitive as Cal. Glad that you’re not being swayed in your decision by other people. After all its you who has to live in the environment, you who has to spend the however many next years at the school, and your name is the one that will appear on the degree.

Personally I too would choose SB over Cal. I also was born and raised in the Bay area and I’ve been wanting to relocate to SoCal for as long as I remember. I’d choose SB, Irvine, San Diego, or UCLA over Cal and just like you, I wouldnt let anyone aside from myself validate that decision.

Good luck, I’m sure you’ll do great!

Sent from my HTC Evo 3D using CC

^if I was from Vallejo, I’d want to leave norcal too haha

@blackbird I wasn’t able to visit because I’m in the military and it’s almost impossible these days to get any time off to go up there for a day.

@mmisphone what don’t you like about UCSB?

@randroid thanks for the kind words. I never expected to get any positive feedback on this mostly because the Internet is basically a bunch of negative trolls.

Are you at Point Mugu or Vandenberg?
But, you definitely can’t go wrong with UCSB, and if it’s where you think you’ll be happiest then your decision is made. I’ll see you there!

I can assure you that I am not a ■■■■■. There are a lot of reasons to dislike UCSB. The people here are kind of awful. Partying is boring after two quarters. The campus is ugly etc etc

But in your case, the main reason not to go to UCSB is the fact that SB is really just a strong regional college, whereas Cal is world class. I know it is fashionable to bash prestige as a decision factor, but prestige should totally matter. It determines the quality of professors, the quality of students, ans the value of your degree.

The first time you tell someone you go to UCSB and they respond “oh party school huh?” You will wish you had gone to Cal

@mmsiphone

What do you mean the people are kind of awful? How so?

I chose UCSD over Cal. If I was just getting a Bachelors (or in engi or some field like that) then I would go to Cal without a doubt, GPA doesn’t really matter and you could get a 2.0 and be fine. But, Med school is my ultimate goal so GPA>Undergrad school. I feel like I might have a slightly higher GPA, a little bit more free time, and more research opps at SD. I know SD isn’t easy either, but I feel like it is a little moreso over a school like Cal that recruits geniuses from all over the world. SD was my dream school and I thought there was no way in hell I was getting into Cal, so I don’t see why that should change after I did in fact gain acceptance to Cal. Plus, I’m no where near liberal enough and I hate the living conditions in Berkeley. That alone is why some people go there though, for the whole Berkeley experience. I’m just saying Cal isn’t for everyone since it’s ranked the #1 Public school. You really have to go check it out and see if it’s for you.

If you’ve been to UCSB and really enjoy it, then go.
