If any of you tutor, how did you get started? Did you put out ads to let people know? Also, where do you tutor ( in school, home, etc)? I would like to tutor but don't know how to get started.

bump

10 char

As a member of the math club, I have tutored several students at school. None of us charged any fee and the hours we spent counted as community service, a requirement for graduation.

Talk to your teachers. They will help you get started.

Good luck!

My school offers tutoring services at other schools during the school year.
However, I am volunteering as an ESL teacher over the summer. I found this job by going on Volunteer Match, which is a pretty straightforward website to help you find volunteer work (including tutoring jobs).
If you want a paying job, I suggest using a job search engine. Then just call the phone number, email them, or whatever. Good luck! Tutoring is really fun.

Definitely! Actually, I enjoyed this as much as taking part in the math competitions.

I tutor two kids. One in 5th and one in 3rd grade. I tutor them pretty much everything they need. I help them with their projects, check their homework. Their parents don’t speak much English. That’s why they need a tutor. Now they don’t homework, they still come for tutoring because we all love it. We read books together. I got them through friends.

I do it at the library.

My school allows you to fill out a form that lists all the subjects you want to tutor in and signatures from the respective teachers and have your name listed in a school directory of tutors.

Most city/town halls have wonderful volunteer opportunities for teenagers including tutoring. I spent many hours at our city hall teaching senior citizens basic computer usage skills. It was also a very fulfilling experience for me.
