does anyone have experience using the tv tuner in their laptop in their dorm rooms? i was thinking about getting one in my laptop so i could record tv shows and watch them on my laptop wherever i wanted to, but theres the issue of only having one cable in the room. has anyone had any experience with these?

just use a splitter? I use 1 cable outlet for my cable modem, tv and tv tuner on laptop... but tv tuners are not clear at all...

Yeah a splitter is like $3 at Radio Shack. And I'll second the view that TV tuners dont' have the best picture. I had one in my (desktop) computer when I was in the dorms, and the quality wasn't bad, but it sure wasn't as good as the regular TVs.

Hey,
I had a TV tuner in my laptop and it was great. Just make sure your computer has a good enough graphics card because analog TV is slow on a few of em. UCLA also has HDTV coming in through the wall jack so it'd be worth it to pick up an HD tuner. It's really pretty awesome.

is that using a splitter spicyroll or without one?

HD tuner? do you need a hd monitor for that? I was thinking about getting hd too since ps3+regular tv=bad quality...

nope the tuner is to run hd tv into your computer which comes out on your monitor. My laptop's resolution was 1920x1200 which puts out HD quality video as should anything 1280x800 and over. HD tuner's don't allow PS3 to play on your computer since there's no HDMI. Uhh... I think we had 2 cable TV ports in the room but I didn't use a splitter since none of my roomies had a TV.

how much is a hd tuner? cuz I have the HP tuner that came with the laptop
