There are a variety of ways to get internships at TV stations. Check the websites of the TV stations in your area. TV stations often have inforrmation on their web sites concerning the application process for internships. You might also check with your college's career planning and placement office or your advisor to see if your school receives requests for interns from any local stations. You can also simply call TV station's main numbers and tell them your are interested in applying for an intership and ask how to apply. I would recommend sending a resume with a cover letter to both the Human Resources manager and department head of the area in which you are interested in working. TV stations often get inundated with applications for internships especially in the news and programming areas.
Internships are often available in sales, accounting, and community affairs departments.

Interns often do very routine work like typing, copying, filing. collating, and answering the phone. The main benefit of internships at TV stations are the opportunity to see close-up how a station operates and the possiblity of making some contacts. I would recommend focusing on doing the mundane tasks you are given well and it could help you in getting a good job recommendation or possibly an entry level position after you graduate.

Since the competition for internships at TV stations is very intense, especially in major markets, I would also check out TV stations in small markets, radio stations, advertising agences, cable tv companies, and other related businesses.

What specifically about TV interests you? There are many types of careers available in TV stations - ad sales, promotion, research, technical, production, community affairs, legal, finance, computer systems, traffic and operations, writing, etc. besides program production and news reporting.
