Hey guys, last year I successfully self studied for the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam (as a Spanish 3, non native) and got a 4. I want to know will colleges care if I take like AP French or AP German and get that credit as well? I don’t want to waste my time if it won’t help me in the long run.
What do you plan on majoring in?
Typically, you can get credit for both, but each college has different AP policies. They are easy to find online.
It’s considered a valuable achievement if you reach AP level in two foreign languages as a non native speaker who lives in the US.
You can also look into Department of Defense summer programs (very exclusive scholarship programs), Concordia language village to jumpstart or accelerate, intensive programs such as Middlebury’s, Penn state’s, or Ole Miss, or study abroad (for French, the CAREL high school program in Royan is relatively inexpensive, and fun since after class you can go to the beach … but there are similar programs in many different areas.)
If you’re aiming for international business, one of the best programs is at the university of South Carolina, and they have “cohort” programs where you can study for a year or two on another country. Having language please proficiency helps, but you need a good GPA and high test scores to get in.
It’d help with admissions to colleges such as Middlebury and Dickinson, which have excellent study abroad programs.
Why not keep on with Spanish and take the second AP exam?
