I am very worried because I only have two APs and 1 Honors course in Junior year, and most of my peers are taking 3+ APs. I am taking Calc BC but the ones with 3+ APs are taking Calc AB. I am planning on taking 4 APs senior year, but I’m not sure if it would even matter that much then. I’m aiming for higher tier schools like UCB and I need some advice. Thanks !
Take the courses that you feel you can do well in. Don’t add another AP just because everyone else is, select your course schedule based on your interests and abilities. If you take too many, you might become overwhelmed and your GPA could suffer. I think your rationale with the higher level Calc AP is logical for your situation.
That being said, I’m assuming that you did well in your freshman and sophomore year classes and feel confident taking two AP’s along with one Honors course. If you only took one on no AP’s during those years, then yes, taking only two makes sense, as it would be a big jump in rigor from 1 or none to 3.
Yes, your senior year schedule will matter as colleges do look at that and consider it in admissions. First they don’t look favorably on kids who slack off their senior year. Secondly, they do take your senior year grades into account - UCI rescinded admission to about 500 students who made D’s or F’s their senior year just recently (they require that you submit senior year transcripts). So you need to make sure your senior year schedule is appropriate for your abilities also.
Good luck!
Thanks so much for all your help!!
