I currently have two legal names under two different passports. One is under my US passport and my social security number is under that name. My other name is under my korean passport. The problem is that my documents, SAT and highschool transcripts are all under my korean name but my FAFSA or common app(since they have my SSN) is all under my US name. What can I do to ensure that the universities I’m applying to, the common app and FAFSA won’t get jumbled up?
My school is providing a statement that states: this person is also known as ______ to all the colleges to avoid confusion. I don’t know how well that would work though
As long as you are consistently using one Social Security number, everything should get matched up. It is a good choice to have your school include that statement in their rec letter. You should also include an explanation in the “Additional Information” section of the Common App.
You use the US legal name and SSN for all of the applications, FAFSA, etc.
Are you still in high school? Is that high school in the US? Then ask them to change the name on your school records so that it is the same as your legal name. This will save you a lot of headaches down the line.
If you cannot change the name on your high school records, then you contact each college and university on your application list and let them know all of the different names that you have used while in school so that they can correctly link all of your documents with your application.
When you apply to U.S. schools, the name on your U.S. Passport is the main name. But make sure all other names, whether official/legal or not, are clearly reported and explained.
Is there any way to upload official supporting documents with my highschool transcript?
Also when I contact the individual schools should I attach the official supporting documents?
