Two questions regarding self-studying AP exams.

Hi there,

I am a rising junior and I have not taken an AP exam before. The only AP offered to my sophomore class was APUSH, and I had what may have been the worst History class of my life the year prior (I took Global Studies and the teacher gave us pop quizzes on United Nations abbreviations...how am I supposed to know what UNHCHR stands for??) and ended up with a freaking C+ (I think...or maybe I raised it to a B, I'm not sure), so there was no way I was taking APUSH for sophomore year.
Luckily, my History class this year was a breeze and I'm going to see if I can request AP World History for my junior year (by the way, is it okay to change your schedule this late in the year? I was originally going for a normal level class but my boyfriend is a junior and he says the normal level class is horrible).
I'm also going to take AP English Lang, which shouldn't be too hard. I'm taking a philosophy related course and I'm big into that sort of thing.

Now I want to major in psychology so I'm planning on self-studying AP Psychology because my school doesn't offer this course. Considering that I've never taken an AP exam before, how would I go about signing up for AP Psych for next year? Do I have to talk to my school's college counselor beforehand? Do you think that it's too late to sign up for it this year, considering today is April 19th? If it's too late this year, I'll just do it next year as a junior. Also, where do I include on my college application during senior year that I self studied for APs? On another thread I read that you just write it in the 'additional information' box, but this seems sketchy because I feel that you could cheat the system by lying and saying that you self-studied for an AP exam when you really didn't. Or do colleges have a way of proving that you did take the exam, like some sort of score sheet from the College Board?

If you didn't want to read all that, here are my three questions

How do you sign up for a self-studied AP class that your school doesn't offer?

Is it too late to sign up for an AP class if it's mid-April and the test is in May?

How do you let colleges know that you self studied for an AP exam?

Thanks. :)

1) Ask your counselor who your school’s AP coordinator is and go from there
2) Ask your coordinator. All I know is that the deadline was either early this month or late last month. I don’t know if they allow late sign ups.
3) Some schools (e.g., MIT) allow you to self-report. Others require you to attach the a copy of the official score report. You have to look at the policy of each school you’re thinking of applying to.
