Two SAT related questions

I’ve heard that scores are considered “distinguishable” only if they’re 50 or more points apart. How true is this? And it does it still hold true when comparing very high scores (i.e mid 2300s to a 2400).

Do colleges consider an SAT score achieved as a Sophomore better than the same score achieved by a Junior/Senior? If so, by how much (as in, a Sophomores SAT score is equal to a Junior’s + x)?

It’s not true, look at the schools’ common data sets. Chances keep going up as your score does.

No. Ditto what newyorka said.

No. Taking them as a junior or sophomore makes no difference.

Some food for thought:

(The new table with class of 2008 data will come out in August.)

SAT scores are reported with the date of the test, and the student’s grade designation as of the date of the test, so a 2300 by a sophomore is distinguishable from a 2300 by a senior.

Does that mean more weight is placed on a Sophomore’s score? Would a 2300 by Sophomore be considered superior to one by a Junior? To a 2350 by a Junior?

Godfatherbob, the answer is no. More weight might be placed on a 2300 by a 7th grader. Not by a sophomore.
