Congrats flipchick! Our birthday must be lucky then :)

anyone know how many semifinalists are chosen?

I was really hoping for this one for my d. She has worked so very hard, no scholarships. She is a 3.8 GPA, in a high school of 2400 kids, with many EC honors. Yet, is not a good test taker. Knows how to work very hard, and does well. I was really hoping for this one for her, to acknowledge all of the hard work, and her future potential. We will not qualify for many others due to finances. Congrats to those who have received their letters and good luck.

Bump for daisy's question... does anyone know how many semifinalists were chosen? Thank you!

I'd like to know that too

bump...so no email notifications...btw when you filed for the scholarship, di you do everythin electronically..or did you have to send anything by snail mail. Cause i remember doing everything electronically, which seemed odd to me, cause no counsellor form etc was included. Is it too far behind to remember?

Yeah, everything was electronic. If you're a semifinalist, though, you have to send in your high school transcript.

btw is it possible to check online if you're a finalist!?

well a semifinalist!?

Did anyone who received a semi finalist notice have a web site to look at?

Nope. Nothing online. Just the snail mail request for a transcript.

well still recieved nothing..so im guessing im not a semifinalist!

I guess they only notified the semifinalists and didn't send anything to anyone else. Only notified by snail mail here.

Does anyone know how i can declare myself independent? How much do i have to make? Thanks.

Bluerose - I think your post belongs in another thread rather than the Tylenol Scholarship thread, but here goes:

You cannot apply as an independent student simply because your parents do not claim you as a dependent on their tax returns. It is not a matter of 'how much you earn.'

The ONLY way you can be classified as an independent student is if you can answer "yes" to one or more of the following questions:

Are you 24 years old or older?

Are you married?

Are you enrolling in a graduate or professional educational program, such a law school or medical school?

Do you have legal dependents other than a spouse? (If you and your dependent children live with your parents who provide more than half the support, you probably won't be classified as independent.)

Are both of your parents deceased, or are you a ward of the court? (Orphans are considered independent only if they don't have an adoptive parent or legal guardian.)

Are you a veteran? (Former National Guardsmen, Reservist, or former members of the Armed Forces who received a dishonorable discharge are not automatically eligible for independent classification.)

If you don't automatically qualify as an independent student, but you feel that special circumstances dictate that you should be given independent status, the school's FAO has the power to reclassify you. Although the financial aid officer has every reason to look to your parents to shoulder the burden of the costs of your college education, the switch to independent status occurs from time to time. But this is very rare and happens only under the most unusual circumstances, and only when it has been proven by the proper documentation.

I was a semi for this, too. Does anyone know when they'll announce finalists/winners?

Still don't know. I think sometime in August.

I just logged into a research site looking for another topic and coincidently they had the announcement for the 2004 Tylenol Scholarship winners. The date at the top was January 20,2005 and stated something like: the list was announced today.................

I thought it was an August announcement......January is SO far away!

Made a call to Tylenol Customer Service. Announcement will be online mid-August. Winners only are being notified by snail mail "now". Mailed out end of July. Good Luck to all.

so, should we have found out by now, if decisions were mailed out already?
