walking around campus the kids generally look pretty normal, but with a slightly higher frequency of dyed or dreadlocked hair than at most campuses

Uhm…people of all sorts. How about that? You can’t seriously think that UCSC would be void of anyone “preppy”. :P

Yeah, no offense, but this is silly. There is a wide variety of people and not only is it impossible to give them a single label, it’s rude. Who cares what kind of category they fall under if they’re chill people? I have dreadlocks, but does that mean I’m a hippie? So don’t worry about what other people are like and just know that you will find people you like and a few you don’t like.

This is really silly. You have students from all over California coming to UCSC. Add in out of state and international students and you got a lot of variety. UCSC students are like students at the different UC’s. Although it is true that you will find more of the “hippy” types at UCSC…but they represent a very small portion of the student body.

UCSC students=just like me and you.

Anyone have any comments on UCSC vs UCSB for out of state?

I like the idea of the UCSC campus, but I feel like I might “fit in” more at UCSB, which in a way is another reason I’d want to go to UCSC for a change from my norm.
