I know for sure I want to go to the premedical route in college. I have no idea what major I want though. I want something similarly to biochemistry or anything that will help to medical school. I like the idea of kinesiology or biology. What are your guys’s thoughts? Thanks!
As long as one completes premed reqs for a particular med school, med schools do not care what you major in. You can major in bio, art history, Spanish, etc, etc. You should pick a major that you are interested in because if you like material you’re more likely to do well GPA wise which is something med schools care, in part, a great deal about. Also as most who start as premed change their minds, and of those who actually apply, approx. 60% fail to start anywhere, you should have a plan B in mind. The job market for bio majors is not great, I’m not sure about biochem. Most premeds do pick bio, maybe out of interest, but also because one can complete most major and premed reqs at same time, whereas if your say an art history major you have to find a way to squeeze premed courses into schedule. I do not know if a kinesiology major has the same course crossover as a bio major, nor do I know anything about job prospects after graduating.
As to “anything that will help to medical school”… what will help you get into med school is a competitive application in all respects (eg GPAs, MCAT, ECs, etc). Whether you have such a competitive application will be on you and your efforts. Good luck.
I know it may sound interesting, but Please don’t waste your time by majoring in Kinesiology…
I don’t want to sound harsh, but I know people with that major and they are al working as a personal trainer at a gym making $12 an hour living with their parents while they try to get into grad school.
But in all honesty, major in whatever interests you, but keep in mind a back up plan. Not all preeds make it to med school- some because of academic issues and many because they change their mind.
