What kind of people attend GW? Are they all spoiled and condescending or are they nice and easy to get along with?

Do a search on the GW forum and you will see a discussion of this topic as well as opinions on the “spoiled, rich kids only” myth.

I am a first semester freshman who was also worried about the type of people I might run into at GW. I come from a middle class family and I live at GW on a middle class budget. I don’t live in Thurston but in one of the smaller dorms. I think I already know everyone in my dorm and they are great. Even the girls that pledged a sorority have been nice despite the fact that that I did not. There are girls there with Italian designer bags but there are just as many girls there who don’t even know that they are Italian designer bags. I have not had one condescending incident with the exception of a sales clerk in G-town. I know that some of my friends are loaded bc they talk about their summer vacations in Santorini, etc. but other than that, they wear the same jeans I do and eat at the same places I’m going for lunch. Its all good, trust me.

My daughter was concerned about this, but her 3 freshman roommates were similar to her and none of them had money to burn. They spent a lot of time planning a low cost option for spring break renting a shared house, borrowing a parents car and buying food to cook at Costco. She recently joined a service frat there, and has been happy that the activities are not pricey and they realize not everyone has money to do expensive things.

I am a Senior in HS from Florida, and I toured GW last month. I found that everyone was very nice, but kept to themselves unless I spoke up. I met two very nice girls who reminded me alot of myself and that was reassuring. It is a pretty big university, so you are bound to find people like you.
