My daughter was accepted into the Rutgers Honors College. We are thrilled. I would love to get a good idea of the types of students that she would be with if she were to choose to enroll. If you or your child is going to the program—either currently or if attending as a freshman in the Fall—would you please share just a bit about yourself or your child? Just basic information—perhaps your/their interest of study, why you/they chose Rutgers Honors and over which other schools. Of course, if you’re a student or a parent there now, I would love your thoughts on the program and the students there. Thanks a lot for your help! -Ken
Have your Daughter join GoRutgers (http://www.go-rutgers.com) and join the Honors College group. She can talk to others that have been invited
I got in too. Basically they take the ‘cream of the crop’ of Rutgers students and put them in a special dorm building and give them more research opportunities. It is very selective, your daughter should be proud.
There is a special info session/tour for the honors collge speciffically (Different than the general Rutgers tour). You should attend bc its very informational.
@Savage101 have you seen info on any sessions regarding the honors college? My daughter would love to check it out.
My daughter is a member of Honors College. She was going to Johns Hopkins University but there was little scholarship compared to full ride at Honors College. She grudgingly accepted the invitation but after her interview, she was beaming. She entered with 36 college credits from APs and could graduate in 3 and a half years but opted to be an exchange student in the international studies program, then declared a second major. One of the research project she participated is going to be published and she is included in the list of researchers. Her other project is also going to be published when done. The curriculum is more demanding than honors program but it seems the children thrive with the schedule. A friend of mine has a daughter who is also in the program, is in band, is EMS certified, does research ( which is a requirement). Mine does two research projects, community work and is in the dean’s list of both the honors college and SEBS.
In short, the students are mostly achievers and no one tells them that they have limits. Company chairmen know this so a lot of them already have job offers when they graduate.
One of the required classes in freshman year is a forum where they design a community project by groups, present it to the class, if lucky and chosen, presents it to the chairmen of the board of different companies and if chosen, gets funding to develop their project to fulfillment and actual implementation. Don’t know though if the patent will be in the sponsors name or if it is given to the students because the first groups’ projects are still in the testing or development stages.
Don’t get me wrong. Honors College is not all studies. They have their own way of entertaining themselves and activities exclusive only to honors college students. The freshmen all stay in the Honors College dorm then they move to the honors section of a dorm of their choice except if they also accepted Douglas College invitation if a girl where they are confined to the Douglas dorms.
