@beatstanford @wayneandgarth @umcoe16 I appreciate all of your help, and I did look at the distribution requirements. I was just confused about some of them at first which is why I asked repeatedly about math, but I understand now.
In my opinion, much of the area distribution requirements are kind of a waste and can be taken as transfer credit from community college (please check transfer guidelines and ask advising before). They tell you that the purpose is to provide a breadth of education, which is true. But they also exist to keep some of the humanities and social science departments financially afloat. Most people don’t take them seriously and often choose the easiest ones to focus on their main major. If you take some of them online elsewhere or over the summer, this allows you to take less credits during the regular semesters and devote time to more important classes and activities but still graduate on time
Depends on the reason. If you do a coop/full-time research experience instead, then it’ll be okay. If it was because you had to withdraw from too many class. Not so good. If it is because you failed too many classes and had to repeat, then even worse. If you switched majors midway because of change in preference (instead of poor performance which they can tell from your transcript), probably okay.
