Typical Mexican Application to HYPS?

Yes, I'm afraid it will hurt your chances--but then I think you already know that.

Man, that's pretty scary, but I mean those are my first 2 B's ever. Oh well, I just have to hope for the best. Will colleges think that I'm (gulp) slipping?

I am in the same position as you. I've maintained a 4.0 throughout high school but I'm afraid I'm getting 2 B's this quarter. It's partially because I've overloaded my courses to the max and my time with extracurriculars and find it hard to balance, but also because my two teachers have been such hard graders that almost no one in the class has an A. I don't think colleges will care THAT much, as long as you do well second quarter to show that it was a fluke.

It's hard not to talk about AA in this response. I'll just mention quickly that without AA you'll be one of the many qualified, bright students applying for these types of schools, and your chances would therefore fall around the average chances to HYPS, 10%. However, with it, you fall into a pool with far fewer qualified candidates. It's hard to chance you without talking about AA.
You're transcript is great; your SAT scores weak; your ECs good. Write great essays.

RememberMe, That's exactly what happening to me in the classes where I got B's in...both teachers are pretty hard graders.

I wouldn't think my SAT's are "weak," maybe just "not as good as they should be." My essays, like I said, should be sufficiently awesome.

You can talk about AA, just how it will affect me, not about how you feel about AA, etc. Otherwise there will be lots of flaming and other related stuff.
