Headed For The Ivy League?

Well, to start things off, here are some of the schools I'm interested in, just so you can think about them as you read my stats (not all Ivy League).

University of Chicago, University of Michigan - Ann Harbor, Duke, Rice, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Cornell, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. Basically, all of the top colleges.

Of course I have some safeties:
UT, Texas A&M

If you think of any other schools I should be considering, please feel free to tell me.

Here are some of my stats:

Senior Year AP Classes I plan to take:English, Gov't, Economics, Biology, Calculus BC, Computer Science, Music Theory

Extras:

*Come from a brand new high school that had 8,9,10 grade its first year.
*Play the Bassoon in the Wind Ensemble(all 4 years )
*Have made All-District Band, and All-Region Band(twice). I plan to make it to All-State this year.
*Have been on the School's Drumline, once in the Front Ensemble, and the the past two years on the bass line(section leader). I will play snare next year. I'm thinking my hook could be a drum playing bassonist. I don't know if that's enough though.
*Have been in many UIL academic events. All-district ready writer.
*Peer Mediation 9th Grade Year
*Been President of NJHS, Crime Stoppers
*Been in Student Council for all of high school(been treasurer three times)
*TASC Recognized "Outstanding" Student Council
*Have won some school awards in web design and world history
*Then I've been in a few smaller school clubs for a year or so, but my main things are StuCo, Band, and Academic Stuff.
*I've gotten 3rd place in The Austin American Statesman's Excellence in Writing Contest.
*In Student Council, I have attended a summer leadership workshop, 2 state conventions, and many district conferences.
*I also volunteer weekly at my church, at least 1.5 hours a week.

**Senior year:
*I will be president of NHS.
*Will be treasurer of Student Council again.
*Will be playing snare as a bassoon player

That's pretty much it.

UMich, UChicago (barring horrendous essays, because you seem like a good fit), and Rice all seem very reasonable.

But premed at Duke, Cornell, Stanford, Harvard, JHU, Yale, and Princeton is going to be hard.

JHU, I would caution is also not need blind.

The good news is that if any of the Ivies admitted you, your family would most likely qualify for full tuition under their institutional policies.

But the Ivies are all still reaches, just as a matter of course. Ditto with Stanford. But I think you'll get at least one of the reachier schools.

Good luck!

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've been thinking.

URM + Rank 1 + Pretty decent test scores

I can see you getting in almost everywhere.

yes, you are ivy bound

dont skimp on teh essays and i'm sure you'll have many nice schools to choose from in may

I was wondering...should I retake the SAT and ACT?

Because you're a Mexican American, you'll get into most, if not all of the Ivies. Not to say you aren't qualified, because you are quite qualified =)

if you have the time to study for it, I would retake that SAT (or ACT depending on which you prefer). It would be great if you got the math and CR above 750.

In at most schools. I envy your position, congratulations on the great stats.

don't apply as pre-med. you risk your chances by putting yourself up for comparison within such a competitive and popular major. also, your application indicates no real interest in medicine. it thus seems pointless, even if it is true. i'd go undecided if i were you. you should have some nice acceptance letters.

"University of Michigan - Ann Harbor"

... what?

You will get into most if not all of the schools on your list. Even if you weren't Mexican, you'd have a decent shot at all.

Yeah, I may consider changing UMich for UC Berkely or something.

I was also worried about applying premed since i didn't take any AP sciences my junior year, which is why i may replace AP Comp Sci and Music Theory for AP Chemistry. Sound better?

Any other schools you guys think I may be interested in?

Any advice?

meh...I agree with the above statement. if you were asian with those stats you would have a hard time getting into any schools...(which is why affirmative action is teh sukz0rz)

"Yeah, I may consider changing UMich for UC Berkely or something."

You say "Ann Harbor," then "Berkely." It's "Ann Arbor" and "Berkeley."

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend or anything. I knew I was misspelling some of them, but i was in a hurry and didn't have time to check up on it. Thanks for correcting me, though.

Let's not focus on the negative.

Does anyone else have anything to say?

I'm not focusing on the negative, but don't misspell the school's name on the app. That's really, really very bad. Do not say you're applying to Ann Harbor. I think they'll throw your app straight for the little round filing cabinet with a clear liner along with yesterday's lunch.

I'll try to remember that. Thanks.
