I was just wondering if anyone had some helpful insight on the students themselves. Are they nice/outgoing? or more snobby and stuck up? thanks

Well, I don’t think you can generalize about a student body the size of Tulane’s, but one of the things that sealed the deal for my son was when we went for Honor’s Weekend and spent some time wandering around the campus. The weather was beautiful and there were students out EVERYWHERE playing pick up softball games, frisbee, and sunning in the quads while they studied as well as sitting outside at the LBC. What we observed was really how happy they all seemed and how well everyone seemed to interact with each other. They were friendly to us as we obviously were visitors, but what impressed my son the most was how laid back and happy they seemed. On some of the campuses we visited, we almost felt like intruders, but we felt nothing but welcome at Tulane. You are always going to find some students who think they are better than everyone else for one reason or another, but in general, I would say that the students at Tulane are very nice. Some more outgoing than others. My son is a very happy sophomore and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. He is going to be joined next fall by his younger brother who cannot wait to get there!

Just to reinforce what kreative is saying, one of the things I especially like hearing from people that have visited the campus is how helpful the students are. Often visitors are pretty obvious, and people have commented on students spontaneously coming up to them to offer directions or other help, or just to answer their questions about classes, professors, life at Tulane, etc. It certainly isn’t unique to Tulane, but it seems that it is present to a degree that outshines most other student bodies.

Kreative is (as always) correct that one cannot generalize about a student body of 6000 or so undergrads, it is bigger than many small towns, especially after you add on the grad students, faculty, and administration. But on the whole Tulane students don’t seem to fall into the “preppy, snobby, entitled” category. Perhaps that is partly due to Tulane’s emphasis on service in the admissions selection process, and helped by the generally pleasant weather and of course the overall strong relationship between faculty and students, as well as the administration and students.
