So what would a typical day at Vassar be like? Run me through what Brewers do from the time they wake to the time they sleep, please.

Mondays for me were pretty typical this past semester.

Wake up at 8.30am, shower, get dressed, do some work that I didn’t do. First class of the week, intermediate French from 10am to 10.50am (MWF). After that, go to the Retreat (cafe in the College Center) for brunch with friends and check the post office for mail, also do more work/reading that I didn’t do, whoops. Writing seminar at noon until 1.15pm (MW).

After classes, I’d grab a bite to eat, drop off books at the dorm, do some homework, maybe take a nap (or any variation/combination thereof) before rehearsals with the dance company from 4pm - 6pm. Then it’s dinner at the ACDC (because at this point I’m hungry and I just need a buffet of food). Then, rehearsal for the musical, usually two to five hours, ending as late as midnight.

After rehearsal, if I’m still alive, I’d visit friends, watch TV, do some more homework, lollygag on the internet (I’m a huge Tumblr fan), etc. Bedtime is normally 1am, and I get about 7 hours of sleep on average.

So you’ll probably get anywhere from 5 to 9 hours of sleep depending on your sleeping schedule. You tend to get just enough sleep, which is nice. Most students have 2 or 3 classes a day from Monday to Thursday. Some have none on Friday, some have 1. Some have 4 a day (as did I on Tuesdays and Thursdays).

You’ll find yourself doing homework/reading whenever you can because you’re always trying to stay on top of it, catching up, or trying to get ahead. That way you’ll have time for rehearsals and practice. Dining is a social aspect here, since that’s probably the only time you’ll see your friends (because you’ll have a lab, and she’ll have rugby practice, and he’ll have rehearsal). But if you’re lucky, you can join them for some downtime, just watching TV or what have you.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights tend to be party nights, so you’ll want to be free of work by then so you can fully enjoy the best years of your life~ But really, most concerts, events, parties happen on these nights, so you want to be free. If you want to stay in, that’s cool too!

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the post. Sounds awesome. any other Brewers want to share their daily lives at Vassar?

bump please?

My guess is that you will like this video… It answers your question:

[YouTube - Vassar’s Channel](http://www.youtube.com/user/Vassar#p/c/3AA56ACE96735AF2/2/J9IxFN0dV0A)

My son found this (after his application was sent in) and it’s terrific! Because it gives you so much exposure to students, I think this is probably better than a tour but not as good as an overnight. (I’m not implying that one should pass up a campus tour when it’s possible because it delivers different types of inputs from YouTube videos; but, given the contrived and imaginary choice where an applicant could only choose one or the other, I’d go with this YouTube channel.)

My days of the week are all different, so this is a bit of a jumble.

I wake up at 9am, shower, get dressed, and have breakfast at the ACDC. My first class is always Elementary Japanese from 11am to 11.50am (M-F). After that, I usually go to the Retreat for lunch with friends and might catch up on my work. (Well, two days of the week I work in the library from 8:30-10:30, and I have Intro to Macroecon at 12pm T/TR, which change this routine a bit.) M/W at 1:30 I have a history class on globalization, and M/TR I have my 3:10 English class, Intro to Literary Studies.

After class, I stop at my room for homework or napping, before I go to the ACDC for dinner, where I usually meet up with friends. After dinner, I have activities most days of the week- Japanese Drill session, more work hours, LiNK, VXF.
After this, I do homework either with friends or alone, and when I’ve completed most of it I’ll go see friends or do something online (practice Japanese, watch videos, read articles and webcomics). I tend to sleep 6-8 hours a night.

For everything else, it’s pretty much how matt said. Friday (after work and class for me) and Saturday are days set aside for fun and relaxing, and Sunday tends to be a day for catching up on work.
