i know it depends blah blah blah but what's an estimate here, folks

Hey! I’m guessing that the wait list for this year to be in the upper hundreds, perhaps around 700 kids or so. That is my approximation. For sure it won’t be in the thousands, because colleges want to increase yield and they do that by being selective about who they place on the wait list – must be people who show tremendous interest in attending and who would definitely not do poorly if accepted.

I think last year was 1033 half stayed one hundred to two hundred were admitted but of course it varies by year maybe they are yield protecting this year like wash u but I think Chicago is above wash u I think yield will be very uncertain this year

damn this is scary

Last year, the Maroon reported in early April that 3,652 people had been admitted and 1,033 placed on the waitlist. The Admissions factsheet currently says that 3,708 people were admitted last year. So it looks like 56 people were taken off the waitlist last year.

It also looks like people were taken off the waitlist almost entirely in response to people who had put down deposits at Chicago deciding to go elsewhere (based on getting in off someone else’s waitlist, or changing plans). In another article at the beginning of May, Michael Behnke (then the Dean of College Enrollment) said that “we were at 1,330 yesterday” for enrollment, but that “some students will be admitted off our waitlist”. The final enrollment was 1,335. So, unless Behnke was being deceptive last year, all but a few waitlist admittees were filling places that people who had deposited were giving up.
