Typo on college essay, am I dead?

According to CB, they rank essay as "important"

Anyways, I put "I want to Ohio State university" instead of "I want go to Ohio State university", how will this effect my essay and overall application? I mean everything else is pretty well written, I asked several teachers to edit it and look for grammar error on paper, but it still got me at the end. How much will this hurt?

Probably won’t hurt that much… it’s not going to be the deciding factor of your admission.

Is this mistake negligible? Would they be able to realize it and still count it as a good essay …

I just saw another mistake…I put 2 things for my special talent when they only asked for one. I was studying for a test while applying so it kind of messed up stuff, I’m pretty sure no more mistakes tho. Should I call them now and tell them to unlock my essay and correct my mistakes??

I think you’re okay. I had to read your two versions twice before I even caught that there was an error (and only because I was looking for one). If it is noticed, they’ll view it as minor.

^ ok, please read 4th post and comment on that…it’s not a part of the essay so I don’t know how they will count it…

The human brain has a tendency to insert words into sentences to make them make sense.

If they notice it, they will understand. A good strategy for future reference is to read backwards (Not the words within sentences, but the sentences themselves.) That way, the essay no longer has a flow and you’re focusing sole on grammatical errors.

Oh my god. You’re done for. That’s the worst mistake I’ve ever seen. Did you proofread at all!?

Not worrying about the much right now…please read post 4, thank you. (still studying for test)

And yes I proofread twice. They had too many questions and that was why I messed sections up. My parents can’t help they understand limited English.

Just forget about it. No big deal at all. It’s done. There is no withdrawing your application to fix typos. Let it go.

What about the problem in post 4, let it go as well? I mean it is not a part of essay section, how would they count against it.

You cannot fix the mistakes. It’s done with! Stop worrying, there is nothing you can do or change.

Actually yea I can call them? But does it really worth it/ make a difference? I don’t know I mean it’s not like I spelled my name wrong which I must fix…!

^You can always email a new copy of those things to the adcom. One of my friends did same kind of mistake with his essay and he is completely fine coz the adcom asked him to send a new version of the essay! Though you are not allowed to make any change except for the grammar mistake, they usually agree to receive an edited version!

What’s adcom. I only know adcom electronics are pretty good.

Adcom means Admission Committee…I meant Admission Officer. :)

Oh, should I call them tomorrow or something since Email takes forever…BTW, would they, after getting all my profile information and stuff, not letting my change it, then it would ruin everything.

BTW what about the 4th post? Should I talk about that as well? I usually hate talking to them because last time I called(not same school), the lady had bad attitude and hanged on me for no reason.

Bump Bump.

Ha ha…sometimes they hang the phone without any reason. But, in this case, you should obviously talk to them. If they reply soon by email, you can email them. Otherwise, try calling them ASAP.

They understand that these small mistakes…they’ll allow you to change them…don’t worry…just give them a call.
