I could kick myself, I combed all of my essays over multiple times for USC before I submitted, but right after I realized that there were three typos; one in my common app essay (I wrote “were” instead of “where”), one in my USC short answers (it says “upon own” instead of “upon my own”), and one in my Annenberg supplement (“as” instead of “a”)
I am freaking out… My standardized test scores are not the highest for USC, but my ACT English score is 33 and I got a 5 on my English Lang exam… Can anyone speak from experience with having so many typos and still being admitted to USC or a similarly competitive school?
You should fix the “were/where” in the common app if sending to other schools obviously. I wouldn’t freak out, USC is so random. They will turn down a kid with 35 ACT and 2300 SAT scores and stellar everything else, but take someone with lower scores and typos. So you could be fine. Lots of kids are rocking the ACT/SAT tests now practicing them ad nauseam till they get a good score. USC doesn’t look for best kids, they look for their definition of what they want. They have the highest percentage of internationals of any school at 33-34%, and are now as big as UCLA with 44,000 students. They certainly have room for kids with typos and are so subjective, they may think they are a feature of your individuality, that’s how ridiculous admissions has become there. Relax, what’s done is done. If you don’t get it, it probably is something other than a typo.
Asking to get it fixed will only draw attention to it. Just forget it about it! They’re not gonna reject you over it.
Thanks for the reassurances… I’ve calmed down a little, all I can do is wait to hear back. (And I did submit it to my other common app school before I caught the mistakes; I’ve already been accepted there)
Typos happen, you are not alone, relax and good luck!
