I have one in my Quick Takes section, and I'm going crazy and want to cry. USC says that part is for fun and doesn't factor into their decision-making, but a typo is a typo. Anyone else make any mistakes in their app? I really hope this doesn't result in an automatic rejection. So much for enjoying break...

Relax. I found one in my application from last year, and I still got in.

How big a typo is it? :D

I put "rember" instead of "remember, " and it's noticeable. A friend and I were discussing the favorite band question, and I decided to go back and look at what I put-- and that's when I saw the typo. I started crying right when I saw it because I could have sworn I had changed it; I had noticed it during the final proofread before hitting the submit button, so I obviously changed it, but I guess it didn't get saved. I really can't relax because I'm just too upset about it. I mean if it was some other college, I honestly wouldn't care, but it's USC!

awelex, what was your typo?

it is absolutely unimportant. that section is by far the least important part of the application. if you are really going crazy send them an email, but there is no way that would be the deciding factor in your admission, it just doesn't work that way.

I really don't think it's that important. I even made up a couple of words in that section. lol.

Honestly its not that big of a deal...ur human. and all humans make mistakes
relax. you oredi submitted ur app. thats the big thing.
just wait for ur admission letter

Thanks guys. It's just that my SAT scores were barely in the 50% range for each section, and my unweighted GPA is a little lower than 3.8, and I was just counting on my application (essay, short answers, everything) to be PERFECT. Just curious, did anyone from previous years have any typos, and still get admitted? How bad were they?

iUSC, I REEALLLYYY don't think a typo will matter, especially in that section. And it definately will NOT make the difference between accepting you and not.

iUSC, that word you mistyped was obviously a typo, not a glaring spelling or grammatical mistake. The adcom will simply brush it off as a typo....really nothing to be concerned about at all. Lots of kids have typos of some sort or another in their essays and more important parts of their apps. Adcom officers are human too and understand these very minor mistakes that are inadvertently made. Do not for one minute more worry about this, it will have no effect whatsoever on the decision.

I made a typo in my Quick Takes as well, and was admitted with a scholarship. Relax, it shouldn't affect your admissions decision at all! :)

Misoobishi, just curious, what was your typo?

I guess I feel a little better about it, but I just can't help feeling paranoid about it! I mean all I want(ed) for christmas was............. USC! I really wanted my application to be flawless, no errors.

I wrote "feisty" as "fiesty"... not a huge deal, but I was freaking out like you were! ;) However, at the various seminars and presentations I attended after I was admitted, the admissions people always described the Quick Takes as fun ways to just learn more about you; they do not really have an impact on your admission.

Yeah, don't worry, iUSC. If I remember correctly, I misspelled the words "the" (I put "then" instead) and "and" (I put "dan" instead)... words MUCH easier to spell than "remember." Very embarrassing and bigger mistakes than your "rember," but I still got in.

It definitely won't be a "make-or-break" deal in terms of admission. If you misspelled every other word, then there would be a problem, but one word... it's nothing. If anything, the Quick Takes section is so that admissions can see your personality beyond the formalities of essays and other relevant written portions. I know you might think it's a glaring mistake because other applicants' Quick Takes are probably flawless in terms of spelling and grammar, but as long as they understand what you're trying to say (which they will), then you'll be OK. Good luck!

i didnt apply to usc but searched for this and was directed here. on my common app essay my first 2 sentences are approx:
"The project was due the day before winter break began. If it was done, we were to take a ten percent penalty and turn it in next term"
the schools it went to were uva and cornell. i can't get perspective right now, does this matter? could it affect admissions? =[
