What are they thinking? Is this retiree driven?

Gettelfinger cites "one-way" the GM way. Posturing. This will settle fast IMHO.

Funny, I live in Michigan and yet I barely know anything about the strike. Just that the deals failed.

My dad works for GM, so this sucks. Supposedly, it will be done fairly soon, though.

yeah, i'm in michigan and my dad's on strike.

it blows.

apparently the problem is that the uaw wants guarantees that gm will keep plants here, and build some of their promising new cars here rather than in foreign countries, in exchange for the transferring of the health care thing. but gm says no.

bummer.

If you don't like your job get another one. If you're unhappy, go somewhere else? Why not? Why strike? It always gets me angry when I read or hear about union strikes. Especially the automakers who are about to close there doors because costs are too high, cars are poorly made, and now this?

They should break the union. Replace every moron with a computer controlled robots. The quality would go up, the costs would go down. Simple as that.

How does anyone think they can work at a factory for 30 years, turning a wrench, or sweeping the floor, and then get a full pension for life? How long is that going to go on? If you ask me, not much longer. GM and FORD will be bought by Toyota or Honda or some Chinese company, they will kick the union out and then what do we have??

Stop the strike BS and go back to work, and thank the lucky stars you got a job. If you hate it, go to monster.com and post your resume, or look in the paper and take one of those you'd like better. Simple as that.

You certainly don't live in Michigan. I'd like you to try to find a job here.

Yeah, jobs are tough to come by in Michigan. So if you can't get a job in Michigan, go elsewhere. There's no law stating that you have to stay in Michigan. Only person preference. And I'm sorry, but I don't give personal preference a lot of credence - I would prefer a job where I do nothing but get paid $300k per year, but I'm not going to get that, am I?

i really hope this strike ends soon.

$200/week is NOT enough to live on.

Knowing GM, it's gonna export factories to China, then the cars are going to have lead paint in it, resulting in a huge class action lawsuit and subsequent bankruptcy. What's the point.....if they're not getting paid enough working for GM, go jump ship and go to Toyota...I heard they're building factories all over North America.

The UAW will make severe concessions - it's their only choice.

Multi tiered wage. Health care to union. Jobs bank stays.......how does that become severe? Job protection.....how does that become severe? I can see how this helps GM earnings reports but I don't see it as severe concessions.

The concessions you've outlined are the largest (qualitatively and quantitatively) concessions the UAW has ever made...
