Hello people, congratulations to everyone how was accepted to U.C.L.A for fall 2014 transfer admission! Yesterday I found out that I have been admitted as a pre history major . Being a pre -history major I will have to complete a few lower division requirements before being admitted to my major. My question is what kind of classes do pre -history majors normally have to complete before moving into the major? Also, I heard that I might have to take a foreign language . The counselors at my CC told me that my two years of Spanish in High School satisfied the igetc foreign language requirements, do I still need more? If so, can I complete the Fl class/ classes in the summer secession at my CC or am I required to take it at U.C.L.A ( meaning that the FL Class is a required lower division course that is not offered at any cc, that seems to be the case with a few of my lower div history courses that I will be required to take). To Sum up my question what kind of history/ social science courses do pre-history majors have to complete to be admitted into the major? What kind of none-history/ social science classes ( such as the required foreign language) will I have to take as a pre - history major and how many of them will I have to take? I know the answers varies per student but I would like to get a rough estimation. Thanks in advance, advice from former U.C.L.A pre-history majors is much appreciated.

This link shows you the premajor courses, the courses for your major, and much, much more. Also, at the very bottom, it says no foreign language is needed. However, you do need 3 quarters of a FL to fulfill your university/college requirements (Forgot which one it is, but you need 3 quarters nonetheless).

The 2 years of Spanish at HS fulfills your IGETC requirement (same as 1 semester of spanish at a CC), but I’m not sure if that counts as 3 quarters of a FL. There’s been a ton of chatter about whether or not it does, but from what I’ve learned in older threads, it does. A UCLA counselor has told one of the posters that it does personally.

I’d check with your school’s counselor as well as a ucla counselor just in case so, you can take a foreign language during summer if need be.

Edit: comma placement is the bane of my existence

Ok cool, yah my big concern was that an extra FL at U.C.L.A was necessary for me to enter my major. I am pretty bad at FL and I can’t imagine taking it .at U.C.L.A X(. If it is just a general requirement than I will take it at my cc either this summer or next summer. Thanks for the insight !
