Thanks for replying to my post. Anyways I think you have the ability to get into University of Chicago. However, I suggest you go with Regular Decision instead of Early Action. Just to raise your chances.
Hey! Im also a junior wanting to apply to UChicago! I think you have pretty good chances, I just think your GPA is slightly on the lower side. You mentioned you have a huge upward trend which is always a great thing though! Take rigorous senior year courses and maintain your gpa throughout the first semester of senior year. best of luck!
“However, I suggest you go with Regular Decision instead of Early Action. Just to raise your chances.”
Lol
OP, looks good except for the GPA. But if you can sell your growth upward, then I think you will have a strong shot. It’ll come down to the essays; but then, it always does.
Your standardized test score is good for the college you are applying for. Your extra curriculars are pretty good too. Try to be more involved in school clubs maybe. And yes, do early decision to improve your chances of getting into university of chicago. You might need a better gpa so try improving that. If you do aall that I believe you have fair chances of getting in. Good luck. (Thanks for chancing me too)
Your unweighted GPA will hurt you a lot. Also, the internship for a VP at Morgan Stanley isn’t really that impressive - it only shows that you have family connections, and VP is actually a lower-entry occupation title.
The two main things that UChicago wants are “quirkiness” and tenacity. You’re really going to have to kill it first semester senior year to show that you can keep up with UChicago’s course load. Your quirkiness will have to show through your essays. I cannot stress how important the essays are. It is extremely unlikely that you will be admitted without amazing essays. Good luck.
You have a good shot. Your ECs and ACT or great you only weakness is grades. As others said try to maximize an upward trend. Also essays are a huge part of applying to U of C more than almost any other school. They really look for creative off the wall-ish essays that show your detication to the school, and their not afraid to defer even overqualified EA applicants who don’t invest that much in their essays. If you work really hard on those and maintain consistent/upward trending grades you’ll most likely get in. Good luck!
