U Chicago

Any one have any tips as to transfering to U Chicago?

Stories, advice, etc.?

yea, i'd like to hear some stories & advice as well.

Where are you transfering from gtfup and what year are you?

I'm (hopefully) transfering from DePaul as a junior transfer. What about you?

i'm hoping to transfer out of Renselear Polytechnic Institute(RPI) as a sophmore transfer. How are your stats?

I'm also transfering (well... trying to) from DePaul as a sophomore transfer and im also looking for advice...

My high school stats are pretty mediocre. I had 3 extra curriculars that I was very involved with for all four years of high school. ACT was 28. My college grades have been pretty good. I think I've got around 3.8...give or take a point.

What about your stats, supernal and ameherally?

Ameherally, why do you want to transfer out of DePaul? Are you looking at schools other that U Chicago?

My high school stats are not great either... here they are...

Attended Deerfield High School
ACT:27
GPA: 4.8/5 weighted
Rank: top 30-40%
EC's: minority club(2 years, founding father), F.I.R.S.T. Robotics(senior year, programming), band(8 years, drums), earthworks(senior), computer club(fresh, soph, junior)
AP's: Calc AB, Micro Econ, Macro Econ, Chem, Comp Sci

I am doing well so far, my gpa will probably be somewhere between 3.8-4.0. I am only in one club, SASA. But I put a lot of time into work (Best Buy) which is why i dont have time for EC's. I am also looking at Northwestern. I want to transfer because depaul is not really what i expected. Why do you want to transfer gtfup?

My high school stats are relatively weak....3.4/4.7 scale, top 50% ish , not to many extracuriricalars other than columbia science honors program(admission based on a test). I'm hoping i can get a really high GPA here to show an upward trend.

I dont think colleges look at HS record for junior transfers...or is Uchic different?

Ohyea, anyone know how schools of U chicago's ranking would view a school like RPI academic wise?

i think they still consider hs stats for junior transfers, just not as much as they do for sophomore transfers.

I want to transfer for so many reasons. To make a very long story short, I am very unimpressed with the lack of academic excitment at DePaul. It seems as though the professors don't even care about the topics they're teaching as much as they could. I'd love to read more primary sources, and I want to be in an environment that expects a lot out of students.

Some people love DePaul. Maybe I just haven't taken classes with the better professors-- but it is not the place for me.

Ameherally, have you visited Northwestern? What is the atmosphere like? Is it similar to U Chicago at all, completely different?

I have visited northwestern. Actually my brother graduated from there 3 years ago. It is not very similar to uchicago. Northwestern has a much more exciting night life from what i have heard. There is a lot to do in downtown Evanston, some of my favorite restaurants are over there. There are also quite a few clubs, but i am not really into that. There are more frats at northwestern, there are a lot more parties, more drinking... (again, things im not too crazy about...)
Hyde park is a great area, but there is not as much to do there as there is at Northwestern. The way i see it is that downtown chicago is fairly close and there is obviously a lot to do there, so i dont think its a big deal...
Academically, i think its probably a bit more similar. Students care about their education and their future (something you dont see a lot of at depaul). Both schools are i think top 15 or top 20 in the country so they are highly respected.
So I think the main difference is there is a lot more to do in evanston than there is in hyde park...

Any idea as to which school is harder to get into as a transfer?

U Chicago is my first choice, but I'm thinking of applying to Northwestern as well, although I don't know if its for me yet.

And also, I love Hyde Park. I would choose it over Evanston--no question!

The transfer acceptance rate for uchicago is 27% and for northwestern its 34%.
You should visit northwestern and see if it would be a good school for you.

This year, the transfer rate was said to be around 100+ out of 600+ at Northwestern. Only 72 transfers enrolled at Northwestern this year.

UChicago is a geek school, where many students study obscure subjects, and go on to receive PhDs at ivies. Northwestern (I believe) is more pre-professional, more mainstream... more "big ten" atmosphere. Just thought you should know.

Humm.. well then it looks like I'm a geek.

I'm thinking of applying to U Chicago as a sophomore transfer... I currently attend Oberlin, but I need to be in a city. What are you guys planning on studying at Chicago?

econ and poly sci... what about you?

I'm sociology...
