I have read numerous threads about other peoples achievements regarding being accepted to the University of Miami. No one really has similar stats to me and I would like to know my chances of getting in. I am currently a sophomore in spring semester at a business school in New York with an undeclared major (accounting or finance). I also live in New York. Freshman year I had a 3.6 both semesters with an A in calculus and A's and B's in my business classes and other classes. Fall of this academic year kind of messed up my decent record. I received a D in my philosophy class because of a bad experience with my professor. My cumulative gpa dropped to a 3.39 because of a 3.0 fall semester. I have 45 credits down with another 15 in progress. I already applied with a great recommendation letter from my accounting professor and with a few activities on my application. I also think that my short responses on my application were fairly persuading. I just hope the will consider my misfortune with my philosophy professor last semester. Thanks for your time!!

Come on, I need something to think about!!! I very anxious!!

Less than 20% chance you get accepted outright. You most likely will get a letter asking for your spring semester grades before they make a decision.

Thanks thats not the worst news… I what do you think I would need to get this semester to bump that percentage up???

i think kinda low since the average accepted transfer gpa to Umiami is 3.4

I actually applied for transfer too.
I got a C- in my international relations class and had a 3.1 GPA at my old school, my current school i have a 3.85.
To make a long story short i transferred twice, had a decent first year GPA and a great 1st half of my sophomore year and i was just accepted yesterday! I took a total of 56 credits and after this next semester I will be up to 74.
So have faith I am sure you will get in, they have to understand it is not all your fault with philosophy and everyone told me I would have a hard time getting in too seeing as if I transfer to UMiami it will be my 3rd school plus my first year GPA was not too good.

On the letter it said that over 2,400 people applied and they only accepted 545.
Good luck!

I think your chances are pretty solid. I mean you’re not a shoe in, but you should be in if you know how to work your application. I myself live just down the street from UM. alot of my friends went there. I go to FIU here in Miami and I was asking a friend of mine who is an admissions counselor there if I should transfer to UM. I have a 3.53. she said I should aim higher and has helped me with transfer applications to Georgetown and George Washington. UM is a good school, and its in a beautiful town. business is amazing. if you come down here, check out Mr. Moes in coconut grove. if I wasn’t from Miami, I think I’d want to go to UM.
