Last year when I applied to college for the first time UMiami was my first choice by far. I ended up getting rejected. I'm hoping to transfer as a sophomore but I'm worried about my college GPA and the fact that the first few exams of college certainly won't help it. Has anyone out there transferred to Miami? What is the transition like? If i managed getting a 3.2 gpa would i be able to get in?

High school stats:
1840 SAT
26 ACT
3.2 GPA
Editor-in-chief/Art director of my high school's nationally award-winning yearbook

avg transfer gps is 3.48. I was accepted in 1 day with a 3.93 for spring. Still waiting on fin aid info though, but it is my third choice anyways.

Hey!
I transferred to Umiami from Tulane, and it has many pros, but there are also cons too like anywhere. It all depends on what you wants.
For one, I think the school is overpriced, so if you get in and get a good scholarship then WOO HOO for you because a lot of people pay everythign to go here haha.
You might get in with a 3.2 but I would say aim for a 3.6 so that if you get a 3.4 you'll be in good standing :) That's at least how I look at it haha
Transition wise, there REALLY wasn't one just because I have a totally different perspective on life since the last college--took a semester off, learned a lot about myself that i hadn't before, and realized...it's JUST COLLEGE! It's a big deal and yet it's just a spec on...the spectrum of life. So, for me, this is just a step in my life and it's not like I have to make great friends, which are hard to come by as of yet.
So, I feel that you shoudl check into it. It's good for some, but not all. In my case, it's probably not the best fit. In fact, I might try and transfer...yet AGAIN..but there are palenty of people who absolutely love it here, so it's all very subjective.
good luck and don't sweat it!! work hard!

hey, i got in to UMiami with 3.43 with my last college, and with a 3.1 HS GPA. My high school GPA sucked, but i still managed to get in. i got accepted around early November (4th, 5th, 6th or so) and i just picked up my admission package this week.

UMiami is my second choice (NYU is 1st) but i'm stoked to be accepted.

The fin aid package they are offering me is a joke considering my fafsa efc is about $400. I would have to take out about 30,000 in loans per year. If I don't get in either of the other 2 schools I applied to for spring I will just hold out until next fall.

ps: as of last year, the yea rI applied, you need at LEAST a 3.75 transferable gpa to get a scholarship...they don't stick to that which ****ed me OFF. i had a 3.83 and i got nothing, so odds of getting anything are slim to none.
but at least i wound up with grants lmao!
