U. of Alabama vs. Clemson vs. VT

Hi everyone. I’ve narrowed my college list to 3 schools and could appreciate any insight. I’ll be majoring in public health/health sciences and plan on double majoring in nutrition. I’ll be an OOS student at any of these schools. I don’t plan on joining Greek life.

  1. Alabama
-Pros: good merit given, pretty campus, not too far from home, admitted to honors college, good alumni, double major possible here, good sports scene
-Cons: large Greek life presence which makes me feel like it would be hard for me to find friends in other areas. Also, campus felt extremely large and wasn’t necessary drawn to it. It could have been the weather I toured but was not my favorite.

  2. Clemson
-Pros: was my dream school, so many things to do outdoors, amazing alumni, perfect distance from home, double major possible here, loved the campus. Dean of behavioral science college worked in food insecurity which is something I want to go into. Also, not too many people involved in Greek life. Great sports too and small campus size (compared to Alabama)
-Cons: no merit so it’s extremely expensive OOS. I would feel as I’m burdening my parents and price seems unrealistic.

  3. VT
-Pros: pretty campus, good alumni, double major possible here, I also feel similar to the people who are committed, great dining halls, interesting clubs, mountain town, etc.
-Cons: really cold, far from home, expensive but not as expensive as Clemson.

VT is a gorgeous campus, maybe nicest in the country. Cold might be overdoing it - it can get cold.

In the end, to me, money wins - you keep brining it up. Alabama can be quite inexpensive.

Plus, you’re in Honors…just an fyi, Bama has the largest Honors College in the country. It’s fine if you take advantage of it. But worthless if you don’t (other than early class registration).

Good luck.

I’d pull off Clemson - dream school, but no reason to pay the most.

Either Bama or VT are fine.
