U of Chicago chances...

I just finished my junior year. Want to - definately - major in Engineering Physics and would pick U of Chicago over any school in the world... yep, any darn school! Since I hate typing, even more than you guys hate reading, I will make this brief, yet detailed...

Public schoool, asian male...

Grades...

So far upto my junior year, I've gotten straight A's with 1 B in Health, which really doenst count for crap... Our GPA system is out of 4.3 (4.3 being A+, 4 being A, 3.7 being A-), so my GPA UW is around 4.1 out of 4.3. Biggest trend of all, my grades are significatly increasing every year (and my classes are getting exponentially difficult, yea right).

For example... Freshman: A, A-, A-, A, A, A+, A+, A-...
Sophomore: A, A, A, A+, A-, A+, A+, A, A-...
Junior: A+, A+, A+, A+, A+, A, A, A, B (fqn health) (A+ = 98-100, A = 95-98, ...)

Rank = ~3 /400 (my best guess)

Test Scores...

Eh, not too great, but I am studying hard for September's ACT and October's SAT's...

SAT score: 1900 (1300 combined), projected score for 2nd attempt (around 2100)
SAT II's: Physics (760), Math II (710), Biology (800)
AP scores: Biology (5), Physics (5), US History (5)

I will be taking 6 AP's next year.

Extracurriculars:

Asian Club
Interact Club
Juggernauts (academic quiz bowl)
Student Advisory Board
Waklsman Students Scholar program
Elementry tutoring
Math tutoring (I tutor science and other subjects out of my own time aswell)
Math Club
Ecology Club
Tennis (varsity; first singles)
Track & Field

I am the first singles -and captain- of my tennis team and Co-captain of Academic Quiz bowl...
Did numerous community service projects through Interact...

Teach tennis on weekends and will start to work the local clubhouse...

Awards:
New Jersey Science fair: 2006 - 2nd Place in PHysics
2007 - 2nd Place in Physics
Named Physcis Talent of United States (right...)
MSU gifted and talented program

And this summer...
I am putting 40 hours a week to do research in the Department of Material Science (Dept. of physcis and Astronomy at Rutgers University) with the Department head and professors, Grad. students and post docs. I've been assigned, with another Post-doc and the department head, a great new project which has to do with recently published paper relating to "checkerboards" (shape memory, quantum computers, *** not) by UPenn scientists. I think I am really a part of something and there is a great chance of me getting published! Well, thats not important, whats important is working at their level of research...

I've had a lot of experience with physics and research and I hope to continue it. I will be entering - most possibly with my current research - Intel, Seimens, and Monmouth competitions. Hope to get something out of them.

Well, need to know anything more, feel free to ask

Thank you
~PJ

I can't help you with chances (sorry); just as clueless myself. However, I do want to comment that UChicago doesn't have an Engineering Physics program. They have just Physics as part of their physical sciences department but no engineering whatsoever, at least to my knowledge.

Well, yes, I am very much fine with Physics as a major as opposed to Engineering physics, because that will give me a lot more opportunities. Engineering is a here-you-have-the-****ing-tools-plug-the-numbers! thing, but Physics requires a level of problem solving skills and a new level of thinking, which can be useful in many many areas.

Thank you
