i need some help in deciding its less than 2 days and im more confused than ever. the situation is im leaning more to upenn as i think the major would be more practical and more choices available but chicago is a great institution as well and i def like the smaller student body atmosphere the big thing im worrying about right now is financial aid. chicago offered me much more aid than did upenn. as of right now i m thinking chicago because it would be less financial stress on my family. but many ppl are telling me this would not matter in 4 yrs when u can earn it right back. any input and advice? thanks!!

Just as I suggested Berkeley to the person who was deciding between it and U of C because it would cost $100,000 more over 4 years to attend Chicago, I would suggest Chicago to you. The money can pay for grad school, trips abroad, or mean a better standard of living upon graduation. The data are pretty clear, there will be no significant difference in income based upon whether one attends Wharton or Chicago.

also, I remember looking at the Biz ranking figures, and one can see that the name of the institution you attend has little do with what ull earn (I think Wharton was first but it wasn't the school with the highest average starting salary) later in life... go where you'd enjoy urself more, and considering chicago is known for economic studies, I think ud be just as well off at either, and I must agree with IDAD.... I'd say Chicago would be the better choice for you.

its a 5k difference...but it will prob increase over the yrs. im guessing 25k-30k over the yrs. would it be worth it?

Yeah it would if you love penn more. I have a lot of friends at penn who love it there and i have a lot of friends who are going to be attending this fall. Its an awesome school (so is chicago), but penn will be more practical and focused if business is what you want, chicago's more theoretical not sure if you'd want that.
Did you ask penn if they would match chicago's award, because they might. Good luck deciding!

ohh yea that's true.... if u do want Upenn, u should do that

If it is a love the school thing, then by all means choose UPenn, but if it is not, $25,000 is a lot of money.

people who go to upenn - wharton as undergrads don't necessarily get into wharton for grad school.

just fyi

$25000 over 4 years might seem like a lot of money, but in the long run, especially if you do well at wharton, it won't mean much. I had to make a decision like this today and I decided that it was in my best interest to go to the school that i felt more comfortable at, because i feel i'd push myself harder there just because i liked it more and wouldn't let myself lag at anything as i'm paying more haha.

Tiffany- A lot of people who go to Wharton for Ugrad don't need to go to grad school, or atleast choose not to since they earn enough starting out already.

ridethecliche...wat was the choice u had to make?

also i called and said another school offered a much better package and i was wondering wat contributed to this difference. and this lady said penn does not match other schools...however i was talkign to someone and he said penn agreed to match his package...and that def made me feel very negative about penn? do u guys know y its not the same case for everyone?

They mess up at finaid every now and then, so they fix it if the other schools included some expenses that penn didn't. I think it's worth the cost if you really like penn more.
My choice was between getting more finaid from lafayette and getting a free trip abroad and all finaid met in grants not loans (marquis scholarship), and wesleyan which i liked more but was giving me worse finaid (even though i got into a very exclusive program).
I had a beef with wesleyan since someone in admissions there misled my family and I and raised our hopes a bit. I got over it though since i'm going to be spending my time at wesleyan not at the admissions/finaid office. The same thing happened to two friends of mine. One got her finaid met by Gtown (hopkins was giving her more) the other didn't get it from Gtown (cmu was giving her more), they're both going to Gtown and they'll just shoulder the costs later since they love the school THAT much.
It's a choice you have to make on your own, so don't do something you'd regret. Over the course of a lifetime the 25k hopefully won't be very significant.
I don't know why it's not the same case for everyone, it annoys me too. Differing family situations I guess.
Good luck picking, let us know where you decide go!

It's a pretty clear choice, IMO. Liberal arts vs. preprofessional and competitive. Different student bodies as well, though both are urban. What do you want out of college? A broad-education or a direct-to-career trajectory? Don't worry too much about jobs post-college, but rather, what path you want to take to get there. And idad is right about the money.

in a way i'm sorry for you for having those tough choices to make but when deciding-always remind yourself you are so lucky to have Upenn and uofc as your choices..so have fun choosing...but 2 more days left..so choose quickly..=)
for econs uofc is on par with Upenn if not better...=)
