4.1-4.4? Is Florida on some sort of 5.0 or 4.4 grading system?

This is scary:
"UF expects a budget cut of nearly $50 million come fall. In order to maintain per-student funding from the state at current levels, UF would need to cut its enrollment by 7.4 percent, or about 3,800 students, according to Board of Governors' estimates. The board, which oversees Florida's 11 public universities, has instructed universities to present plans by the end of the month that would bring enrollments in line with the dwindling budget figures.

The board alerted universities to the need to trim enrollments in January, but UF was too far along in its admissions process to scale back freshman acceptance letters for the fall, according to Janie Fouke, UF's provost."

^ I am not that worried about the cuts. The Chronicle of Higher Education did a story about how this can help UF to cut the excess fat, and to become more leaner as an institution. We also are in the midst of a $1.5 billion Capital Campaign.

As far as the other institutions in the State University System of Florida, they are up a creek (with the exception of FSU who also has a good amount of money).

UF recalculates everyone's GPA and gives 0.5 weight for AP/IB/Honors/Gifted classes, so an A in such a class = 4.5

That should put the entering SAT right about 1275-1280 ish. I hope after the "fat" is cut, we break the 1300 barrier for an enrolled class REAL SOON!

There is considerable difference between "admitted" or "accepted" SAT scores and actual "enrolled" SAT scores.

UF's enrolled SAT scores for Fall 2007-2008 = 1140-1360 with a mid-point of 1250 per the Common Data Set ( Office of Institutional Planning and Research - Common Data Set: First-Time, First-Year Admission ).

I would not say "considerable", but the difference between SAT range of admitted students and SAT range of enrolled students generally fluctuates between 60 and 80 points. Like I said, not considerable, but noteworthy.

I honestly think the enrolled stats will go up by 40. This is because UF got rid of ED admissions.

2011 = 1250 enrolled --- 1210 - 1400 admitted

2012 = 1290 enrolled --- 1240 - 1410 admitted

Just my honest opinion.

Right, subtracting 50 from 1325 is ~1275 for "enrolled". I was thinking another 5 points or so due to the fact that early decision was nixed plus I have heard that there was some room left for appeals, most of whom I think would appeal based on great GPA and SAT scores, yet gettig dinged. I'm guessing 1280, but only time will tell. A 1300+ would certainly put UF in a very elite category.

Using the Excel Normdist function :

Score-1300
Average-1015
Standard deviation- 200
True

a 1300 is ~ the 92 percentile of all test takers.

A 1330 (think Berkeley) is ~ 94.5%tile using the function above

The state of Florida's is currently at: 18.25 million

Imagine how selective it will be in 2030, when there are 28 million residents

Then you could possibly compare it with California, which has over 36 million residents I believe, but has 9 (10 including grad) campuses, 2 (3 if you include UCSD) of them being "top schools". So your acceptance rate should drop into the low/mid-20's.

Although you guys are (largely) focusing on SATs, it is important to note that Florida does not consider them that strongly in admissions...lots of other things trump SATs in UF's admissions process.

Evidently so...

California is projected to have over 46 million. :eek:

Florida's 2030 population is projected to be over 27% demographic aged 65 and older (#1 state for percentage of retirement age people).

Like China, Florida will grow old before it becomes rich.

...yeah but you've got to remember 60 is the new 40.

^ Yep, but unless 65 is the new 18, UF should specialize in adult day care. :D

I'm kidding. Ignore my flame post.

"Like China, Florida will grow old before it becomes rich."

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Florida in 2006 was $713.5 billion. Its GDP is the fourth largest economy in the United States.
