Umich Or Uiuc??

HI, I'm going into business and I've gotten accepted to both umich and uiuc. Although I really want to go to umich (it has the 2nd best business program in the country) if I do go I'll have to reapply to their business skewl after 2 years, which is VERY competitive (only 50% get in), and i'll be stuck if i dont get in. UIUC isnt as good of a business school (its 11th..still really good though!!) but its garunteed business major, also i'm in state so the tuition is a whole lot less! Which should i chose? suggestions/comments?

Do you mean that because USNews gives Mich a higher ranking, which itself only means that out of over a thousand academics like deans a few more voted for Mich than Ill, you really believe it is better? If so you are placing far more importance on the USNews rankings than USNews even places. Don't make your decision on that basis. If you are in state Illinois the cost difference to go to Mich is enormous. Unless you have some other major reason for going to Mich, I would vote for taking the definite bird in hand of admission to the business college that you already have at UIUC.

Michigan's business school isn't held in such high regard for no reason. The fact is that certain companies recruit Michigan business students more heavily because the business program there is clearly a notch above the one at U of I and many other universities. Plus, the students in Michigan's business school are generally considered some of the best students at Michigan since they had to have an impressive two-year college record in order to be admitted into the Michigan undergrad. business school.

Also, some of the prestigious I-Banking and Consulting firms limit the schools they recruit at. Most often, they recruit at the prestigious private universities and only a few state universities. Michigan is one of the few, while U of I doesn't quite make the list of some of these firms.

bump..........

Yeah if in state tuition means a lot go to U of I. It has a great business school. If instate tuition doesn't mean a lot go to U of I (I mean michigan haha). But seriously companies come from all over and especially if you do well it won't matter to much if you went to U of I rather than UMich. Although UMich is higher ranked U of I is a much better caliber of school in general.
