That is one of the reasons I am leaning more towards Michigan. I’m only a train ride away from my home and my doctor. I know my parents would be willing to maybe pay a little more so that I’m closer to them and my doctors. I still require bi-monthly checkups, so this would make it a lot easier. I am however still waiting to here back from northwestern which would make everything a lot easier

^^^^Except that ennis attended Duke and his parents went to Ohio State.

One of the fellows I work with has parents who went to OSU and went to UMass. That colors everything Michigan for him.

hey, OP has a serious situation here. Let’s put aside our rivalries and help her out.

Bimonthly trips to the doctor might very well seal the deal. The shorter the trip the better for OP’s studies. One question: Is it really necessary to travel home to the oncologist when UNC and UMich have very good oncologists? Only OP can answer that.

As far as fit goes, I agree with rjk that Loyola is it. There’s nothing more important than home and oncologist when you’re recovering from cancer. Plus Loyola has less stress in other ways.

What seems to differentiate the other schools from Loyola is OP’s interest in prestige. Should someone in her condition privilege prestige over safety?

Her parents are wise not to make this decision for her, but as a parent I would recommend she go to Loyola and get completely healed. There’s a lot of life left to chase prestige.

(A word of advice from a college professor, OP: wherever you enroll, if you get sick, IMMEDIATELY notify the advisory center and ask them to notify your professors. You’ll have many more options if you do this than if you try to do it after missing a big chunk of the semester. There’s a lot of unpleasantness surrounding having to make decisions about a student who stops coming to class and then at the end of the semester announces she’s been sick the whole time. At that point, the professor and admins have far fewer options to protect your GPA, save you money, etc., because our desire to be “understanding” smashes up against our obligations to be fair to all the other students.)

I’m a guy lol

OP: do you need to go see your oncologist twice a month? In that case you need to stay as close as possible, so you’d need to deposit at Loyola, (hoping to get off the wailist at NU).
If you are healthy again, can get a recommendation for a good oncologist in North Carolina and you feel comfortable with that, UNC is a great choice.
I guess I don’t understand your health situation (you don’t need to respond, only you and your parents know, but it needs to be taken into account).

I agree with jkeil wrt to notifying the advisory center and the health center IMMEDIATELY. Ask the advisory center to notify your professors. It will be fairer to you, your professors, and your classmates, and will allow the college to deal with you fairly rather than in a rush that complicates life for all involved.

Thanks jkeil911, and all three schools know my situation and michigan and unc gave me names of some doctors I can see there if I need to.

It’s also not so much about prestige, but that they are better schools in general. If I wanted prestige, I would go to Washington University in St. Louis, but I personally don’t think I’d like it so I didn’t accept. But I know where you are coming from.

It’s a very tough decision and I have a lot to think about, but there are still a few schools I’m waiting to hear back from and I’m also waiting to visit the campuses for orientation in order to get a feel for the school

You MUST deposit tomorrow at one school though. If you hear back from a school that waitlisted you, you can just tell the first school that you forfeit your deposit but won’t be enrolling there finally. It’s so common there’s a name for it, “summer melt”.

I’ve been accepted to 5 schools so far, and I made deposits at three schools that I’m interested in. I understand that whichever ones I don’t pick, I will lose my deposit. I’d rather play it safe and wait to hear back from ALL of the schools I applied to

They are better schools in general, but that is not to say that your experience there will be better or that you will get a better education. This is how “better school” can then be questioned as a reason to go there or to apply. Very good students are going to get very good educations at a lot of schools. With your health issues, the field is narrowed.

It is not considered okay to double deposit, let alone triple deposit. Be careful.

That’s what I thought, but I was told as a transfer it’s more acceptable. Otherwise I don’t know what I’m supposed to do because some of the schools have

The deposit date of May 1st is for incoming freshmen. Since you are a transfer , your required deposit date should be later . In a school I looked at randomly, transfers don’t have to deposit until May 15th. What are the required deposit dates for your schools?

Maybe it’s okay for a transfer, or as long as you withdraw a couple of deposits before the transfer deposit deadlines. I don’t know. Maybe someone here knows for sure, Good luck.

Both Michigan and UNC deposits are due tomorrow. I’m still waiting on 4 more schools to get back to me. I’m playing it safe and if I lose the deposit I am fine with that. I’m not sure if its unethical or what, but I’m not sure what else I am supposed to do.

The transfer checklist on UNC’s website says the deposit is due by May 15th. When will you hear from Northwestern?

Ive been hearing things from mid may to mid june. Penn lets me know monday, and stanford and jhu I don’t know.

You might want to ask for an extension on making a transfer deposit rather than making any more deposits, since you’ve already got three deposits made. Good luck with the decisions from other schools. That is too bad these other schools are taking so long.

Thanks, Loyola’s deposit is refundable up until August 1st, as for the others I will email them and let them know. And it is unfortunate that the other schools are taking so long, but I still have my fingers crossed
