Has anyone heard from UofM yet?

noooooooooope, best of luck to you chelle!

Is U of M University of Michigan? Best of luck to you, chelle. When did you audition?

yes, is your daughter auditioning this year NMR?

colegePLEASE....while U of M can refer to University of Michigan, it also can refer to University of Miami which also has degree programs in MT.

oooooohhhhhh, thanks soozievt!

soozievt, I actually have a couple questions for you but I got a message saying your inbox is full! XD

And so as not to threadjack, my audition for University of Michigan was approved for the 8th of February. And I applied as a dual applicant so I was accepted into the school of LSA, even though I highly doubt I'll attend the school if I don't get into the school of theatre. Oh well, it's still nice. :)

I was referring to University of Michigan. D. auditioned in November. They cautioned us that they do not make many acceptances until March 17th after the last audition. However, I though perhaps someone heard.

I prefer emails and don't keep up with clearing the PM box out. I'll try to get back to you if you email but can't keep up with all the personal inquiries that people send, since I am volunteering and have to put my clients first. I try to volunteer a LOT on the forums to help many at one time, and cannot guarantee that I can field all individualized help questions on a volunteer basis given how many hours per day I can put in for volunteering, when I am so busy with clients at this time of year. I can help with indivdual cases using CC's counseling services. I offer a lot of help for free on the forum with the hopes of reaching many at one time with help that may be applicable to a bunch of people, but for those who want more personal assistance with their own process, counseling services are the best option. You can send me your questions, but again, I can't promise, as a volunteer, to field the numerous emails asking for help that come in frequently, and choose to do most of my volunteering ON the forum generally speaking. You can find my email by clicking on my member name.

About calling it UM vs. UMich - when I was there recently and I was talking to some locals, I referred to the school as UMich. They looked at me funny and said "we call it UM here" - and I did remind them that there were other UMs! I guess for the purposes of CC, I'll just stick with UMich....

Anyway my D, who is at UMich, has heard of one guy who was accepted from the fall auditions. There may be others (?) but that's the only one she knows about.....I think more often people get deferred after their fall audition.

Yes, my D was approved to audition and will do so in early February. It will be fun visiting Ann Arbor in February; last year in April, we came out of the Detroit airport to freezing rain and sleet. :) (Coming from the southern Mid-Atlantic area as we do, I think we imagined that the daffodils and crocuses would be in bloom!) :) Nonetheless, she fell in love with the school after sitting in on several classes and meeting so many amazing, talented and NICE kids, including MTMama's D.

Just to get the nomenclature straight, we Michiganders (yes, after the waterfowl -- however some prefer the gender neutral Michigainians) refer to The University of Michigan as either "Michigan" or "U of M" not "UMich" or "UM". Although people from East Lansing have been known to refer to it as "that school in Ann Arbor". For clarity and in deference to other universities with "M" in their name, I might suggest the use of "Michigan" on this board. Sorry if I sound a little like William Safire here but Michiganders are awfully proud of our university, particularly it's MT program if not the football team.

Haha! Well, I heard from Michigan, but it was a rejection letter. Oh, well.

acsch, sorry to hear that you did not get the news you were looking for. :(

I guess I at least know where I stand. Better to be rejected now than rejected in spring. Though, at the same time, it's tremendously jarring to be rejected this early. Ehh...I'm just trying not to think about it because it's too depressing to think about.

Anyway, good luck to all you November people who've yet to hear!

Sorry to hear that acsch. An early rejection really does hurt -- just happened to my D. But I do believe it means there is another even better path for you that you will soon see. Try to hang in there and keep moving forward. You'll definitely feel better in a few more weeks -- time has a way of healing this type of disappointment. I feel your pain!!

May I ask you if you got rejected from MT at Michigan -- you did an early audition? Did you by chance do the dual applicant option to have another academic option there?

NewbieMTMom, I'm actually a freshman in the LSA (U of M's general college) now, so I'm going to apply to the voice performance program, as well. I'll also probably apply to Northwestern's theatre program with the ultimate goal of entering their mt certificate program. Transferring is about the last thing I want to do right now, but I think that compromising my field of study would be just as difficult for me.
