I've heard back from all of my colleges, and my final decision right now is betwee the University of Michigan LSA Honors Program and Boston College! I have no idea what I want to major in, maybe psychology or political science -- no idea!

I live in New Jersey, so Boston College wins location-wise, but I am jewish and liberal, so I'm worried that I won't fit in at Boston College. Sports are really important to me, and so are campus vibe, location, academics, and student body.

Price is not really a factor because I'll be paying a ****load at both :(

Any thoughts/comments to help me make my decision?

Both are great schools so academically there really is no wrong choice here. Michigan has a very strong psychology program, and has highly regarded programs across the social and behavioral sciences.

I think that differences in campus cultures of politics and sensibility are often overstated, but in this case BC would certainly have a more conservative and traditional student body. I couldn’t find any data on what percentage of BC student come from Catholic high schools, but 70% of the student body self-identify as Catholic. Being Jewish and liberal would put you in small minority on the campus, but like minded people are more likely to be concentrated in your areas of academic interest there.

I would definitely pick Michigan over BC in your case. While both are great schools, Michigan has the edge academically. Given that you do not know what you want to major in, Michigan would be a much wiser choice. Umich dominates in so many areas; it’s crazy. There are so many top 10 and top 20 ranked programs at Michigan, while BC does not have nearly as many. For psychology and political science, US news ranks Michigan in the top 5 for both. Boston College is not even in the top 50 for psychology. The environment in Ann Arbor will be considerably more liberal than BC. As for sports, Michigan blows BC out of the water. I think the choice is pretty clear, but you have the final decision to make. Best of luck to you!
