any insights on which would be best for a microbiology major? I've been accepted to all three but I am unsure as to where to commit. I love Colorado and Minnesota and have visited U of M and plan visits to the other two soon. I just don't know academically which would be best, especially for research and undergrad research.

Without a doubt, I believe that Case is the toughest academically but provides the most opportunities for research. They are all good but Case stands out.

CU Boulder has a very strong microbiology program.

I went to Boulder long ago and it’s a fine school for a lot of reasons, but it is exceptionally expensive. Even if you’re in-state it might be more expensive than UMN, which is one of the best buys in American colleges. Very strong STEM school at a great price. Case Western might not be its equal overall but it’s pretty close. These are good choices to have. I might consider the price differences, and you haven’t told us what they are.
