UMN-TC vs UW Madison Microbiology

I am debating on whether to go to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities or UW-Madison to major in microbiology. I would go to CBS at UMN (already accepted) and I am expecting to get into CALS at UW-Madison.

I live in MN, and I am leaning more towards UMN because I love the city campus and Minneapolis has so many more job opportunities and internships than Madison. But I do really like the Madison campus as well, and I feel some internal conflict if I want to go out of state or not.

Does anyone know how their microbiology programs compare? Or just the colleges in general (academics and college life)? I could really use some input. Thanks!

This isn’t a direct correlation but UW-Madison is ranked top 20 for graduate bio. sciences while UMN is top 40 (US News). However, we have neighbors who sent their kids to CBS after getting in both places because they thought the labs were better equipped and newer (this was a few years ago). Perhaps you can arrange a tour and get a feel for both. As you seem to get, your experience is about more than your major. Both are great places and you really can’t beat the price!

Congrats and good luck!
